The 2008 Campaign Cup was a Millennium Series paintball tournament held in London, England, from 23 to 25 May 2008. It was the second event of the 2008 Millennium Series season, following the opening round in Málaga.[1][2]

Moscow Phoenix won the professional Champions Paintball League (CPL) competition, with Budapest Bullets second, Joy Stockholm third and Chilli Peppers Riga fourth. SK Moscow won the Semi-Professional Paintball League (SPL) competition.[2][3]

Event

[edit]

The Campaign Cup was the British round of the five-event 2008 Millennium Series. The season continued at Toulouse in July, the Nürburgring in September and Paris-Disney in October.[1][2]

WARPIG published a virtual field preview using the Millennium Series' published maps and Sup'Air bunker dimensions. Contemporary SEBURO coverage also reproduced and discussed the Campaign Cup layout.[1][4]

Championship background

[edit]

Joy Stockholm entered the tournament leading the championship after winning the opening event in Málaga. Copenhagen Ducks had finished second there, Budapest Bullets third and Frankfurt Syndicate fourth.[2][5]

Moscow Phoenix arrived with 56 points from sixth place at Málaga. Its Campaign Cup victory added 100 points, bringing the team's championship total to 156.[2]

Budapest secured its second consecutive podium finish, following third place in Spain with second in London. Joy's third place maintained its championship lead.[2]

Final standings

[edit]

The archived official CPL ranking table records the following London event placings and championship points. These are event-ranking points, rather than points scored in individual matches.[2]

Campaign was Moscow Phoenix's only CPL event victory of the 2008 season. Fourth place was Chilli Peppers Riga's highest placing that year, while Stockholm Ignition's fifth place and London Shock's sixth were also their respective best finishes of the season.[2]

Semi-Professional Paintball League

[edit]

SK Moscow won the SPL competition. Planet Eclipse's report on the following year's Campaign Cup explicitly identified SK as the previous season's semi-professional winner.[3]

That report distinguished SK's 2008 SPL success from its subsequent professional Campaign Cup victory in 2009.[3]

Championship position

[edit]

After the opening two rounds, Joy Stockholm led the CPL standings with 180 points. Budapest Bullets followed on 168, with Moscow Phoenix third on 156. Copenhagen Ducks stood fourth with 128.[2]
