The 2009 Millennium Series season was a season of the European Millennium Series tournament paintball circuit. Its five events took place in Spain, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Turkey. SK Moscow won the professional Champions Paintball League (CPL) championship with 356 points, ahead of DC Arsenal Dynasty on 292 and Budapest Bullets on 264.[1]

The CPL championship comprised four points-scoring rounds: Málaga, Bitburg, London and Antalya. The Millennium Cup at Paris-Disney was a separate competition and does not appear as a points round in the official CPL season standings.[1][2]

Season overview

[edit]

Disrupted opening event

[edit]

The season opened with the Fuengirola Beach Cup on the beachfront at Fuengirola. Strong winds and rain disrupted the tournament, leaving matches to be completed at later Millennium events.[8]

The official Paris schedule reserved the opening CPL-field session on 3 July for the Málaga semi-finals and finals. Frankfurt Syndicate defeated SK Moscow 5–3 in their semi-final and London Nexus 5–2 in the final. These results belonged to the Fuengirola Beach Cup, despite the matches taking place during the Paris weekend.[3][4]

Frankfurt consequently received 100 championship points for the opening round, with Nexus taking 88 for second and SK Moscow 80 for third.[1]

Bitburg

[edit]

DC Arsenal Dynasty won the European Masters in Bitburg, defeating SK Moscow 5–0 in the final. Budapest Bullets beat Chilli Peppers Riga 5–4 in the third-place match.[5]

With second place at Bitburg following third at Málaga, SK Moscow had accumulated 168 points from the opening two CPL rounds. Dynasty's Bitburg victory followed tenth place at Málaga.[1]

Paris competitions

[edit]

The Paris-Disney event included the Millennium Cup and a separate Intercontinental Cup. The Millennium Cup draw placed teams from different Millennium divisions together: one preliminary group included London Nexus, Ronins PBW Haguenau, 2easy Warsaw and MacDev Ronin.[2]

Chilli Peppers Riga won both competitions. Riga defeated DC Arsenal Dynasty in the Millennium Cup final and Joy Stockholm in the Intercontinental Cup final.[6]

Although Paris was part of the season's event programme, its cup results were separate from the four-event CPL championship table.[1][2]

Campaign Cup and Antalya

[edit]

SK Moscow won the Campaign Cup by defeating Chilli Peppers Riga 5–4. Planet Eclipse's contemporary report described SK recovering from a 4–0 deficit, drawing level at 4–4 and winning the deciding point after the game reached a one-on-one situation.[7]

The victory increased SK Moscow's championship total to 268 points before Antalya. Budapest Bullets stood second on 200, while DC Arsenal Dynasty and Joy Stockholm each had 192.[1]

DC Arsenal Dynasty won the final CPL round at the Sarsilmaz Cup, ahead of SK Moscow and Joy Stockholm. SK's second place secured the season championship with 356 points, a margin of 64 over Dynasty. Budapest finished fifth at Antalya and retained third in the final championship standings.[1][9]

The Antalya tournament also included the Semi-Professional Paintball League, Division 1, Division 2 and M5 competitions. Its reported winners included Art Chaos Moscow in SPL, All Russians Moscow in Division 1 and Dogs D'Amour Thessaloniki in Division 2. These were event results rather than season championship standings.[9]
