Johannesburg Dynamix, also known as Team Dynamix or Dynamix, was a South African tournament paintball team based in Gauteng. The team competed in the South African Regional Paintball League (SARPL) and internationally in the Paintball Asia League Series (PALS).[1][2]

Dynamix won the Division 1 championship at the 2013 Paintball World Cup Asia in Langkawi, Malaysia, becoming the first South African team to win the tournament. The team also won the 2013 South African Division 3 national championship and finished first in the SARPL professional season standings in 2014 and 2015.[1][3][4][5]

History

[edit]

Early competition

[edit]

Dynamix was competing in South African tournament paintball by 2012, appearing in the South African Regional Paintball League Division 3 five-player competition.[6]

The team was associated with Gauteng, particularly the Johannesburg and Boksburg areas.

Its original founding date has not been independently established.

2013 World Cup Asia championship

[edit]

Dynamix achieved its most significant international success at the 2013 NAZA World Cup Asia, held in Langkawi, Malaysia, from 14 to 17 November.

The team competed in Division 1 against 13 other international squads.

Captained by Craig Marley, Dynamix defeated Datis 1–0 in the semi-finals before facing Raskal Malaysia in the championship match.

Dynamix won the final 4–3, with the deciding stages affected by a penalty against the Malaysian team.

The victory made Dynamix the first South African team to win World Cup Asia.[1][2]

The tournament's final Division 1 standings were:

Position Team Country
1st Dynamix South Africa
2nd Raskal Malaysia Malaysia
3rd Datis Iran / UAE
4th Xtioneers Malaysia

Although Dynamix won the World Cup Asia tournament, Xtioneers won the overall 2013 PALS Division 1 season championship.[2][7]

South African championships

[edit]

In December 2013, Dynamix won the South African Division 3 national championship in the five-player Race-to-2 format.

The championship was decided at the inaugural Paintball Super Cup, held at Gariep Dam from 6 to 8 December 2013.

The South African National Paintball/Airsoft Association confirmed Dynamix as the national Division 3 champion following the event.[3]

In 2014, Dynamix competed in the SARPL Champions Division, the country's leading domestic competitive category.

The team finished first in the professional season standings with 470 points, ahead of Reaper on 395.

Dynamix also won the professional division at the 2014 Paintball Super Cup.[4][8]

The team retained its position at the top of the national professional rankings in 2015.

Dynamix and Reaper each accumulated 464 championship points, with Dynamix ranked first in the official final standings.

Dynamix also won the professional division of the 2015 Paintball Super Cup.[5]

Later competition

[edit]

Dynamix continued competing in the South African Regional Paintball League after its national championship successes.

The team's name appears in the 2016 SARPL Champions X-Ball results, finishing fourth at the opening Gauteng tournament.[9]

A Johannesburg-based Team Dynamix entry also appears in PBLeagues records for subsequent international competition.

The available records do not establish a definitive date on which the organisation ceased competing.
