2024 NXL Mid-Atlantic Major
The 2024 NXL Mid-Atlantic Major was a National Xball League paintball tournament held at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from 21 to 23 June 2024. It was the third major of the league's United States season and included professional, women's, divisional, youth and classic competition.[1]
Red Legion won the professional division, defeating Chicago Aftershock 7–4 in the final. The Heroines won the WNXL X-Ball division with a 4–3 victory over Cheetahs.[2]
Venue and schedule
[edit]The event took place at Bader Field, 545 North Albany Avenue, Atlantic City. It marked the NXL's return to Atlantic City after four seasons.[1][3]
The venue also hosted the postponed professional play-offs from the 2024 NXL Lone Star Major on Thursday, 20 June. Those matches belonged to the Lone Star event and were separate from the Mid-Atlantic Major, which began on Friday, 21 June.[3]
Competition formats
[edit]Professional X-Ball used 15-minute matches with a six-point mercy rule. WNXL X-Ball, Semi-Professional and Division 2 used 15-minute matches with a five-point mercy rule. Divisions 3 and 4 played 12-minute matches with a four-point mercy rule, while Division 5 played ten-minute matches with a three-point mercy rule.[1]
The programme also included divisional and youth five-player competition, women's five-player and three-player divisions, Classic Open five-player and seven-player competition, Amateur ten-player competition, and Amateur, Intermediate and Novice three-player divisions.[1]
The professional division used a blind field layout, which competitors could not study in advance. Amateur competitors received a separate layout ten days before the event. The NXL announced this arrangement in connection with the rescheduled Lone Star professional play-offs.[3]
Professional competition
[edit]Twenty teams contested the professional division, with ten advancing from the preliminary round. Red Legion won all four preliminary matches.[2]
In the semi-finals, Red Legion defeated Edmonton Impact 5–4, while Chicago Aftershock defeated San Diego Dynasty 5–3. Red Legion then beat Aftershock 7–4 to win the event.[2]
Women's competition
[edit]Ten teams entered WNXL X-Ball. Both The Heroines and Cheetahs finished the preliminary round unbeaten. In the semi-finals, The Heroines defeated Dallas Vibe 5–0 and Cheetahs beat New Jersey High Rollers 3–1. The Heroines won the final 4–3.[1][2]
Separate women's five-player and three-player competitions were also held, with three teams in each category.[1]
