The Busbesija paintball park proposal was a planned paintball facility included in a proposed shooting complex at the former anti-aircraft battery in Busbesija, Mosta, Malta. Contemporary reporting in 2015 explicitly identified a paintball park among the proposed facilities. The wider development was subsequently reported as shelved. [1][2]

Proposal

[edit]

The paintball park formed part of a development proposed by U-Group Malta for the former military site. The wider project included several shooting ranges and other facilities. The available reports do not provide a separate layout, operating plan or opening date for the paintball component. [1][2]

Objections

[edit]

On 3 June 2015, the Maltese-language newspaper Illum reported objections from Front Ħarsien ODZ to the proposed complex. The group criticised the scale of development outside the development zone and its potential effects on a nearby retreat house. The report specifically included a paintball park in its description of the proposal. [1]

The objections concerned the wider shooting-range development and should not be presented as findings about the effects of the paintball component alone. [1]

Project shelved

[edit]

On 5 July 2015, MaltaToday reported confirmation from a government spokesperson that the Busbesija project had been dismissed following the government's due-diligence process. The report again listed the paintball park among the planned facilities. [2]

U-Group Malta responded that it had not been informed of the decision or asked for clarification concerning the issues reported. [2]

These sources document a proposed paintball facility within a shelved development, rather than an operating paintball field. [1][2]
