Low Gear was a New Zealand tournament paintball team based in Auckland. The team competed in the New Zealand Paintball Players League (NZPPL) and South Auckland Paintball Club (SAPC) competitions during the early 2010s.[1][2]

Its documented achievements include winning the Plate competition at 2013 NZPPL Super 5 Man Event 1 and finishing second in the Plate at Event 2.[2]

The team's PBLeagues profile identifies Asylum Paintball in Auckland as its home field.[3]

History

Early NZPPL registration

Low Gear appeared on the NZPPL registration list for its third event of 2012, advertised for 20–21 October on the Kāpiti Coast.[1]

The surviving registration list confirms that an entry was submitted under the Low Gear name. It does not independently establish that the team attended or competed at the event.

2013 NZPPL Super 5 Man Series

Low Gear competed in the 2013 NZPPL Super 5 Man Series.

At 2013 NZPPL Super 5 Man Event 1, held at El Rancho Holiday Park in Waikanae on 9–10 March, Low Gear won the Plate competition.[2]

The leading Plate placings were:[2]

Position Team
1 Low Gear
2 Shattered
3 AoA

The Plate victory corresponded to seventh place in the overall thirteen-team classification.

At 2013 NZPPL Super 5 Man Event 2, held at Adrenalin Paintball Sports in Paraparaumu on 1–2 June, Low Gear finished second in the Plate behind Shattered.[2]

The NZPPL combined standings placed Low Gear ninth after the opening two rounds.[2]

2014 SAPC Race Series

Low Gear competed at the third event of the 2014 SAPC Race Series, held at Asylum Paintball in Kingseat, Auckland, on 12–13 July.

The team finished sixth among seven entries in Open X-Ball, earning 25 ranking points.[4]

The event was won by ADHD, followed by CamoMeat and Disposal Unit.

2014 NZPPL Race 2-4 Event 2

Low Gear participated in NZPPL Race 2-4 Event 2, held at Asylum Paintball on 30–31 August 2014.

The team finished fifth among six Pro X-Ball entries.[5]

Its recorded matches included victories over Kamikaze Knights, Mischief Militia and The Wild Bunch, alongside defeats against ADHD and Trauma.[6]

International Pacific Championship

Low Gear returned to Asylum Paintball for the 2014 NZPPL International Pacific Championship, held on 25–26 October.

Eight teams competed in Division 1 X-Ball, including international entries from Australia and French Polynesia.[7]

Low Gear finished sixth overall. Its recorded results included victories over Mischief Militia and CamoMeat, a draw against South East Cartel and a forfeit loss to Kamikaze Knights.[8]

The tournament was won by Trauma, followed by Legacy NZ and Kamikaze Knights.

Historical records

Low Gear's PBLeagues registration is dated 1 July 2014 and identifies Auckland as its home town.[3]

Earlier NZPPL records document entries under the Low Gear name in 2012 and 2013. The PBLeagues registration date should not be interpreted as the team's founding date.

The precise founding date, complete historical rosters and final period of competitive activity have not been established.

Name

The team name appears principally as Low Gear. The closed form LowGear is treated as a styling variant where it occurs in New Zealand competition records.

Low Gear should not automatically be associated with unrelated overseas teams or businesses using similar names.
