The 2006 Paintball World Cup Asia was the inaugural Paintball World Cup Asia tournament, held from 8 to 10 December 2006 at Xtion Paintball Park in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It formed part of the Paintball Asia League Series (PALS).[1]

Iran's Datis won Division 1 and was also reported as the overall PALS champion.[1]

Background

[edit]

World Cup Asia followed earlier international competitions organised in Malaysia, including 2004 Nation Cup and the Asia Pacific Paintball Championship 2005. The organisers subsequently identified these events and World Cup Asia 2006 as successive stages in their development of international tournament paintball.[2]

Organisation and participation

[edit]

A contemporary report reproduced by Johnny Ong in Life's Happenings, crediting The Star, recorded approximately ninety participating teams.[1]

The report identified Xtion Paintball as the organiser, working in collaboration with Malaysia's Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Information and Ministry of Tourism. It also named PALS, the Millennium Series, Paintball Sports Promotions and the United Paintball Federation as associated organisations.[1]

Results

[edit]

Datis of Iran won the Division 1 competition. The contemporary report also identified Datis as the overall PALS champion, distinguishing its tournament victory from its series title.[1]
