2010 Greater Auckland Open
The 2010 Greater Auckland Open (GAO) was a paintball tournament held at North Shore Paintball on 20–21 November 2010. Eight teams competed in a race-to-three format. SCK won the tournament, with Clown Monkeys finishing second.[1][2][3]
Organisation and format
[edit]The tournament was announced under the name Auckland Open. The organiser stated that his usual Labour Weekend event had been cancelled to avoid competing with the new NZPPL series on the same weekend.[1]
Matches used a race-to-three format, with semi-automatic markers capped at 12.5 balls per second and restricted coaching. The tournament used a turf playing surface and the 2010 PSP World Cup field layout.[1][2]
Results
[edit]A contemporary report by a tournament referee recorded SCK as the winners and Clown Monkeys as runners-up.[2]
| Place | Team |
|---|---|
| 1 | SCK |
| 2 | Clown Monkeys |
Derder Productions' archived match listings document semi-finals between SCK and Expendables, and between Clown Monkeys and Convicts. Convicts and Expendables subsequently contested the third-place match; the recovered listing does not establish its result.[3]
Film coverage
[edit]Derder Productions filmed the tournament. On 10 December 2010, the match videos were announced as available online. The archived Greater Auckland Open channel includes recordings listed for the semi-finals, third-place match and final.[3][4]
