Splinter (New Zealand Paintball Team)
Splinter was a Wellington-region New Zealand competitive paintball team documented in X-ball and tournament competition during 2007 and 2008.[1][2] The team won the main competition at a Christchurch X-ball event in September 2007 and placed third overall at the 2008 Wellington Easter Paintball Tournament.[1][2]
History
[edit]Splinter's first confirmed result in the recovered records is from a Christchurch X-ball tournament in September 2007. Results posted immediately after the event placed Splinter first in the main competition, ahead of Legion, STK and Murder Inc.[1] A participant described Splinter as “Ants'” team from Wellington.[1]
Contemporary discussion after the Christchurch event referred to Ants assembling another Splinter roster for Easter 2008.[1] A February 2008 Council of Captains access list also recorded Ants as Splinter's representative.[3] A contributor familiar with the Wellington paintball community identifies Ants as Antony or Anthony Bold; the spelling of his given name has not been independently verified, so he is identified here as Ants Bold.
Splinter was one of thirteen confirmed entries at the Wellington Easter tournament held at Grenada North Soccer Field on 22–23 March 2008.[2][4] Provisional preliminary standings posted on 22 March placed the team fourth with 686 points.[2] The final overall order posted on 24 March placed Splinter third, behind Legion and Nick Dawson Experience featuring Ethan Bailey.[2]
The same final post labelled Splinter third in the Professional division. It also labelled seventh-placed Outlaws “3rd place pro”, creating an unresolved duplicate divisional placing.[2] Splinter's third-place overall result is clear, but the source should not be used to reconstruct a complete Professional podium without further evidence.
