Wellington Cup
Wellington Cup was a five-player paintball tournament held in the Wellington region of New Zealand. Contemporary records document victories by Wellington Phoenix in 2000 and House Steiner in 2001.[1][3]
History
2000
Phoenix won the 2000 Wellington Cup, with Tag n' Release, Vipers and Fullboar also reaching the finals. Phoenix's contemporary report credited House Steiner with refereeing and organisation, and John and Barb at Thunderball with organising the event.[1]
Phoenix reported losing only to Warp Speed during the preliminary round. It subsequently secured the championship in the four-team finals.[1]
Tag n' Release's contemporary team profile records second place, with 130 points from a possible 400 in the final round. The team had scored 570 from a possible 800 during the preliminary round.[2]
| Place | Team | Final-round points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Phoenix | Not stated |
| 2 | Tag n' Release | 130 |
Vipers and Fullboar were the other finalists; their finishing order is not given in these accounts.[1][2]
Named players
Phoenix's event report identifies Ryan Pike, Peter Hamilton and Adon Upjohn in its descriptions of play and equipment. These names form a partial identification of the event squad, rather than a complete roster.[1][5]
The report separately thanks Shane, Glen, Margaret and Danny for support during the tournament.[1]
2001
House Steiner won the Wellington Cup in August 2001. A participant account posted to the NZ Paintball Message Boards on 13 August placed Steiner, Saints and Tag n' Release in the top three, separated by fewer than thirty points. It did not explicitly identify which of Saints and Tag n' Release finished second.[3]
| Place | Team |
|---|---|
| 1 | House Steiner |
Two squads from the Tag n' Release group participated. The report also recorded Tag and Training defeating both Tag n' Release and Saints in individual games. Phoenix players helped referee the tournament.[3]

The Valhalla National Rankings recorded the following normalised Wellington Cup scores. These were contributions to the national five-player rankings, rather than raw tournament points or a separate final classification.[4]
