Tag and Training, also recorded as Tag & Training and TNT, was a Rotorua-based New Zealand paintball team. A contemporary report described it as the amateur team associated with Tag n' Release. Competing as a separate entry, it won the Second Division at the 2001 New Zealand Paintball Nationals and the 2002 Northland Open.[1][2]

History

[edit]

2001 Nationals

[edit]

Tag and Training competed at the 2001 New Zealand Paintball Nationals at Actions Paintball in Auckland. The tournament used seven-player, two-flag games, with the leading four teams in each division advancing to finals.[1]

Rob Maddox's report described Tag and Training as Tag n' Release's amateur team. It won the Second Division with 180 final-round points, ahead of Damn Natives on 130, Fusion on 120 and Damage on 117.[1]

Tag n' Release competed separately and did not reach the divisional finals. Its results should therefore be distinguished from Tag and Training's championship victory.[1]

Other activity in 2001

[edit]

A contemporary forum discussion records TNT players participating in social games in Rotorua on 4 November 2001. In a reply posted that evening, ANTSMAN explicitly identified Glen and Mark as TNT players.[3]

The discussion supplies only their first names. It does not establish their surnames or a complete team roster.[3]

2002 Northland Open

[edit]

At the 2002 Northland Open, Tag and Training finished second overall with 503 points and won the Second Division. Saints won overall with 666 points, while Havoc finished third with 430.[2]

The seven-player tournament was organised by Wayne Rolleston of Paintball West in Auckland. Tag and Training and Tag n' Release were identified as separate Rotorua teams.[2]

Tag and Training player “Lurch” accepted the divisional trophy. The report does not identify him as captain or supply his full name.[2]

Relationship with Tag n' Release

[edit]

The 2001 Nationals report explicitly identifies Tag and Training as Tag n' Release's amateur team. This documents an affiliated team relationship at that event, rather than interchangeable names for a single tournament entry.[1]

Both teams also entered the 2002 Northland Open. Tag and Training competed in the Second Division, while Tag n' Release competed in the First Division and finished fourth overall with 410 points.[2]

The available reports do not establish when Tag and Training was formed or provide a complete account of the affiliation's duration.

Documented players

Mark 4 November 2001 Identified as a TNT player in the same reply [3]
Lurch 2002 Northland Open Identified as a Tag and Training player who accepted the Division Two trophy [2]

These are individual player mentions, not a complete roster. No surnames or captaincy have been assigned from inference.
