1993 NPPL Dallas Open
The 1993 NPPL Dallas Open was a paintball tournament held in Dallas, Texas, on 26–28 March 1993. It was the first completed tournament of the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL), following the cancellation of the planned San Diego Great Western Open.[1][2]
The Ironmen won the professional 10-man division, ahead of the All Americans, Storm and Bad Company. Thunderstorm won the amateur 10-man division.[3]
Background and organisation
The Dallas tournament became the opening competition of the NPPL's inaugural season after heavy rain washed out the intended San Diego opener.[1][2]
The original NPPL was owned by its member teams and sanctioned tournaments organised by independent promoters. Its sanctioning system gave the league authority over competition rules, prices and paint policies. WARPIG's retrospective account describes the original competition as using a 10-man, two-flag format, with participating teams taking turns to provide referees.[4]
Entries
A contemporary notice published in the June 1993 issue of Action Pursuit Games advertised the Dallas event for 26–28 March. It reported that 28 teams wished to enter a tournament with an advertised capacity of 24 teams.[2]
The notice therefore documents demand exceeding the planned capacity, rather than establishing the number of teams that ultimately competed.[2]

Ironmen's Dallas record
The professional victory began a run of three consecutive Dallas Open wins for the Ironmen, who also won the tournament in 1994 and 1995. The team went on to win the 1993 NPPL professional season championship.[1]
