1993 NPPL Boston Cup
The 1993 NPPL Boston Cup, also referred to as the Boston Open, was a paintball tournament in the inaugural season of the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL). It was advertised for 18–20 June 1993 and produced by Jerry Braun. Chicago Aftershock won the professional competition, while Plague won the amateur competition.[1][2][3]
Organisation
[edit]A contemporary notice in Action Pursuit Games named Braun as the tournament's producer and registration contact. The advertised entry fee was US$1,850, and competitors were permitted to bring their own paintballs.[1]
The Wild Geese and New England Express were scheduled to provide referees. The notice explained that local professional teams were being used as officials because of their tournament experience.[1]
The Boston Cup followed the Dallas Open in the league's programme and preceded the Chicago Cup, which was advertised for July.[1]
Competition
[edit]A report issued by the office of NPPL representative Steve Davidson, published in Paintball News on 25 September 1993, stated that 69 per cent of teams at Boston advanced to the semi-finals.[4]
The report described professional and amateur teams competing together during the preliminary stages, with amateurs subsequently entering their own semi-finals. It identified Phantoms of Massachusetts as sixth-place amateur finishers and Damage Inc. of New Jersey as seventh.[4]
