Southclan (Malta Paintball Team): Difference between revisions

Revision as of 08:35, 27 October 2026

Southclan, also recorded as Southclan Malta and South Clan, is a Maltese paintball team. Its documented international activity includes participation in the Sicilian Paintball Cup in May 2016 and the National Xball League European Championships in 2024. [1][2]

History

Sicilian Paintball Cup, 2016

According to a retrospective account published by Malta Paintball, Southclan travelled to Sicily for the Sicilian Paintball Cup in May 2016. The account identifies Chris Cioffi, Jesmond Cioffi and Albert Vella among the Maltese squad. [1]

The event was promoted by the Sicilian Paintball League as a combined speedball and woodsball competition. Its original Facebook listing advertised a two-day programme and identified Paintball Siracusa LoSpazio and Paintball Sicilia League among the hosts. [3]

Malta Paintball's account describes three-player speedball at LoSpazio Siracusa and a woodsball stage advertised for Palazzolo Acreide. It does not provide Southclan's final placing or individual match results. [1]

Contemporary event media includes Paintball Licata footage titled Sicilian's Paintball Cup 29-05-2016 – Woodsball Splash!, published on 30 May 2016. This provides a separate contemporary record of the event, but its title and description do not establish Southclan's roster or result. [4]

In a retrospective post dated 12 October 2026, Malta Paintball described the 2016 visit to Siracusa as Southclan's first overseas tournament. The post again identified Chris Cioffi, Jesmond Cioffi and Albert Vella. This description concerns the team's overseas competition history rather than its founding date. [5]

Later team record

Southclan's PBLeagues profile records its home town as Żejtun and its home field as Epic Fields Paintball in San Pawl il-Baħar. The profile gives a registration date of 14 July 2024; this is a database registration date rather than a team founding date. [2]

At the 2024 European Championships, held from 28 August to 1 September, the team entered as SOUTHCLAN MALTA. PBLeagues records a finish of 25th among 28 teams in the Amateur division. [2][6]

-== Relationship with Maltese paintball ==
-Southclan was among the Maltese teams participating in organised tournament paintball before the establishment of the present [[Malta Paintball]] voluntary organisation.
-Its international appearances provided documented examples of Maltese players competing abroad during the 2010s and 2020s.
-Several individuals associated with Southclan, including Chris and Jesmond Cioffi, subsequently became involved in Malta Paintball's organisational and competitive activities.[1][5]
-Southclan, HBI Malta and Malta Paintball should be distinguished as separate team or organisational identities. Shared participants do not establish that one organisation was formally renamed or succeeded by another.
