Demonz Red: Difference between revisions

From WikiPaintball
Created a new article for Demonz Red after establishing that it was initially a second-line team related to, but competitively separate from, the original Demonz roster. The article documents its formation in 2007, three MPOC Division 1 series championships, the 2009 organisational dispute and its later return to competition. Results belonging to Demonz and KL Demonz have been kept separate because uninterrupted identity and naming continuity have not been established.

Demonz Red was a Malaysian tournament paintball team formed in 2007 as a second-line roster associated with the established Demonz team. It subsequently developed into a separate top-division team and competed in the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC), Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) and Paintball Asia League Series.[1]

Demonz Red won the MPOC Division 1 series championship in 2008, 2010 and 2011.[1][2][3] The team also finished third in Division 2 at the 2007 Paintball World Cup Asia.[4]

History

[edit]

Formation and relationship with Demonz

[edit]

Demonz Red was formed in 2007 by players from several team backgrounds who came together to enter a Paintball Asia League Series event in Taiwan. Patrick Tan of Pro Paintball, the team's manager and sponsor, described Demonz Red as initially being a second-line roster to the existing Demonz team.[1]

The two names did not initially represent a single interchangeable competition entry. Demonz and Demonz Red entered the same tournaments as separate teams, including the opening round of the 2008 MPOC, where Demonz finished first and Demonz Red second.[5]

The original Demonz team had won the 2007 MY-NPL Division 1 championship.[6] Results belonging to that roster should therefore not automatically be attributed to Demonz Red.

2007 season

[edit]

During its first season, Demonz Red competed in Division 2. Tan's retrospective account states that the team finished as the Division 2 series runner-up during 2007.[1]

At the 2007 World Cup Asia, Demonz Red placed third in Division 2 behind Nemesis of Malaysia and Anti-Heroes of the United States.[4]

2008 season

[edit]

Demonz Red moved into top-division competition during 2008.

At the opening MPOC round, Demonz won Division 1 and Demonz Red finished second, with Raskal third.[5] Demonz Red subsequently recorded second-place finishes at the second and third rounds of the circuit.[7]

The team also competed in MY-NPL Division 1, finishing fourth at the opening round in Petaling Jaya.[7]

At the Sultan of Kedah Cup in July, Demonz Red finished third in the Open division behind Raskal and Xmenz.[8] Tan's season account additionally records podium results at the Terengganu Open, Pro Paintball Cup, NPPL Invitational Asia and NXT 7-Man tournament.[1]

Demonz Red finished second at both the fourth and fifth MPOC rounds. Its results across the season secured the 2008 MPOC Division 1 overall championship.[1][7]

At the 2008 World Cup Asia, Demonz Red competed in Division 1. The team placed fifth according to its management's published season record.[1]

Reorganisation in 2009

[edit]

Demonz Red experienced an organisational dispute during early 2009.

In an account published in June, Patrick Tan stated that disagreements arose between players and Pro Paintball over a proposed monthly contribution towards training paint, sponsorship arrangements and the distribution of money recovered from an NPPL Invitational Asia prize.[1]

Tan described the existing roster as having reached the end of its operation. Contemporary reports also stated that several former Demonz Red players joined other teams and that Demonz Red was not expected to contest the 2009 MY-NPL season.[9]

The account represents the team manager's version of the dispute. No independent account from the departing players has been identified, so detailed claims about individual responsibility should not be treated as independently established.

A Malaysian roster subsequently competed in France under names including Demonz and KL Demonz. It finished second in Millennium Series Division 3 and fourth in the 2009 Intercontinental Cup.[10] Available sources do not establish that KL Demonz was a direct continuation of the former Demonz Red organisation, and those results are not included in Demonz Red's record here.

Return to competition (2010)

[edit]

A team using the Demonz Red name returned to MPOC Division 1 during 2010. The extent to which its roster and management continued from the 2008 team has not been fully documented.

Demonz Red finished third at the first round, second at the second round, fourth at the third and third at the fourth.[11][12][13][14]

At the fifth-round finale in Subang Jaya, Demonz Red defeated MacDev Ronin 3–2 in the Division 1 final. The result secured the 2010 MPOC Division 1 series championship.[2][15]

2011 season

[edit]

Demonz Red opened the 2011 MPOC season with second place behind Thailand's Infernal at the UPM Open.[16]

The team won the second round, the Chief Minister of Malacca Cup, ahead of the Xtioneers, MacDev Ronin and Nemesis Legion.[17] It finished second to Nemesis Legion at the third round, the Sultan of Kedah Cup.[18]

At the fifth-round Putrajaya Cup, Demonz Red finished first ahead of Nemesis Legion, Raskal and the Xtioneers. It was also declared the overall 2011 MPOC Division 1 champion.[3]

Later appearance

[edit]

Demonz Red finished fourth at the opening round of the 2012 MPOC season at Xtion Paintball Park in Bukit Jalil.[19]

The team's organisational status after that appearance has not been conclusively established. An absence from later surviving results should not by itself be interpreted as a confirmed dissolution.

Sponsorship

[edit]

Pro Paintball sponsored and managed Demonz Red during its early seasons. Patrick Tan stated that the support included tournament entry costs, training paint and equipment arrangements.[1]

The team's reported equipment sponsors during the 2008 period included:

  • JT
  • Energy Battery
  • Deathstix
  • Paintball Assassin
  • KCHL[1]

The precise duration and terms of each arrangement have not been independently documented.

[edit]

Demonz

[edit]

Demonz was the senior team with which Demonz Red was initially associated. Contemporary results list Demonz and Demonz Red as separate entries, demonstrating that the names should not be treated as synonyms during 2007–2008.[5][6]

Demonz requires a separate article and tournament record.

KL Demonz

[edit]

KL Demonz was a Malaysian roster that competed at the 2009 Millennium Series tournament and Intercontinental Cup in Paris. Contemporary coverage sometimes shortened its name to Demonz.[10]

The roster emerged during the period following the Demonz Red dispute, but the available evidence does not establish a simple renaming or uninterrupted organisational succession. KL Demonz results should remain separate unless stronger roster or management documentation is located.

Demonz Lucifer X

[edit]

Demonz Lucifer X competed in lower divisions at Malaysian tournaments and finished third in Division 3 at the 2010 World Cup Asia.[20] The extent of its formal organisational relationship with Demonz Red has not been established.
