Demonz

From WikiPaintball

Demonz was a Malaysian tournament paintball team associated with Selangor. The team competed in the Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) and Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC), winning the 2007 MY-NPL Division 1 championship.[1]

Demonz was the senior team from which Demonz Red initially developed as a second-line roster. The two teams subsequently entered tournaments as separate competitors, including the opening round of the 2008 MPOC, where Demonz finished first and Demonz Red second.[2][3]

The Demonz name was later used by Malaysian and multinational rosters in international competition. The extent of the organisational and roster continuity between the original team, KL Demonz and these later entries has not been conclusively established.

History

[edit]

Early appearances

[edit]

Demonz was documented in Malaysian tournament paintball by May 2006, when the team was among those attending a practice session at Xtion Paintball.[4] This establishes activity by that date but not the team's precise founding date.

By 2007, Demonz was competing in MY-NPL Division 1.

At the opening round of the 2007 season, the team finished third behind Nemesis and MacDev Ronin.[5] Demonz won the third round in Klang, ahead of Nemesis and Delta Rovers.[6]

The team won again at the fourth round, held at Dataran Ayer Keroh in Malacca on 11–12 August. MacDev Ronin finished second, followed by Raskal and Delta Rovers.[7]

At the season finale at the Malaysian Paintball Academy in Petaling Jaya, Demonz won Division 1 ahead of TAG Effect, Nemesis and MacDev Ronin. MY-NPL subsequently declared Demonz the 2007 Malaysian Division 1 champion.[1]

Demonz Red

[edit]

A related team, Demonz Red, was formed in 2007 by players from several team backgrounds. Patrick Tan of Pro Paintball described it as originally being a second-line roster to the main Demonz team.[3]

Demonz and Demonz Red should not be treated as interchangeable names. Contemporary records list them as separate entries competing against one another.

At the opening round of the 2008 MPOC, Demonz won Division 1 and Demonz Red finished second. Raskal placed third and Nemesis fourth.[2]

Demonz Red subsequently developed its own competition history and won the 2008, 2010 and 2011 MPOC Division 1 series championships.[3][8][9]

2008 season

[edit]

Demonz continued competing in MY-NPL Division 1 during 2008.

The team won the second round in Kuantan, ahead of Nemesis, Delta Rovers and Raskal.[10] At the third round, held at the Malaysian Paintball Academy on 31 May–1 June, Demonz finished second behind Nemesis. MacDev Ronin placed third and Banzaai fourth.[11]

The surviving results distinguish these MY-NPL appearances by Demonz from the contemporaneous MPOC campaign of Demonz Red.

Demonz did not finish among the top four at the 2008 MY-NPL finale. Nemesis Legion won the tournament and the overall Division 1 championship.[12]

KL Demonz and Paris competition

[edit]

In July 2009, a Malaysian roster appeared at the Millennium Series tournament at Disneyland Paris under names including KL Demonz, Demonz Red and Demonz Raskal in contemporary reports.[13][14]

The roster finished second in Millennium Series Division 3 and fourth in the associated Intercontinental Cup.[15] The Intercontinental Cup entry was officially listed as Kuala Lumpur Demonz.[16]

Contemporary reports indicate that players connected with Demonz Red and Raskal participated in the Paris campaign. However, the surviving sources do not establish that KL Demonz was an uninterrupted continuation of the original Demonz organisation.

The Paris results should therefore be attributed to KL Demonz rather than automatically incorporated into the original team's tournament record.

Later use of the name

[edit]

A team entered as Demonz, representing Malaysia and Iran, finished third in Division 1 at the opening event of the 2012 Paintball Asia League Series in Bangkok. Shockwave Canada won the event, followed by Destroyer of Thailand.[17]

At the 2012 World Cup Asia, the Demonz entry was described as representing Malaysia, Iran and the United States.[18] Demonz was also listed among the teams expected to compete at the opening PALS event of 2013.[19]

The available evidence does not establish the roster, management or organisational connection between these multinational entries and the original MY-NPL team. They are therefore documented as later uses of the name rather than as proof of continuous operation.

[edit]

Demonz Red

[edit]

Demonz Red originated as a second-line team associated with Demonz but became a separate competition entry.[3] The two teams competed against one another during 2008, and their results should be recorded separately.

KL Demonz

[edit]

KL Demonz was the name used for a Malaysian roster in European competition during 2009. Contemporary reporting also used Demonz Red and Demonz Raskal for elements of the same Paris campaign.[13][14]

A separate KL Demonz article may be appropriate if a complete roster and its organisational structure can be independently established.

Demonz Lucifer X

[edit]

Demonz Lucifer X competed in lower divisions at Malaysian tournaments and finished third in Division 3 at the 2010 World Cup Asia.[20] The exact organisational relationship between Demonz Lucifer X and the senior Demonz team has not been documented sufficiently to combine their results.
