WarPigs was a New Zealand tournament paintball team from Invercargill. The team reached the final of the 1998 National Three-Man Centre Flag Competition after finishing second in the tournament's published end-results table.[1]

The name was also rendered as Warpigs and War Pigs. These spellings refer to the same Invercargill team.

History

[edit]

WarPigs competed at the National Three-Man Centre Flag Competition held in Invercargill over Queen's Birthday weekend in 1998. Four teams played six matches each over one and a half days, using three-player centre-flag games on two fields.[1]

The contemporary report identified Allan Grigg as captain, with Mark Anderson and Craig Martin completing the entry. Martin was also listed as a reserve for S.L.O.B.s; the report explained that the tournament rules allowed a player to reserve for two teams.[1]

WarPigs recorded 278 points in the published end-results table, placing second behind S.L.O.B.s on 291 points and ahead of K.S.B. and The Last Boy Scouts.[1]

The report's prose states that the leading teams were separated by 22 points, although the printed totals of 291 and 278 differ by 13 points. The discrepancy is preserved because the source does not explain or correct it.[1]

WarPigs and S.L.O.B.s advanced to a final for which their scores were reset to zero. The report states that the final was decided by nine points but does not identify the winner or provide the complete final score. WarPigs can therefore be verified as a finalist, but not as the tournament champion or runner-up.[1]

Mark Anderson received the tournament's Most Improved Player award.[1]

No verified WarPigs appearance has been identified after the 1998 tournament. The team was previously associated with a 2008 Wanganui event in the research register, but WarPigs does not appear in that event's original published standings, so the claimed appearance has been removed.
