2011 NZPPL Rotorua Tournament
2011 NZPPL Rotorua Tournament was a five-player paintball competition held over 4–5 June 2011 at Lakes Ranch on State Highway 30, near Rotorua, New Zealand. The tournament was the second round of the 2011 New Zealand Paintball Players League (NZPPL) series and took place during Queen's Birthday weekend.[1][2]
Ten teams entered the competition, which used a double round-robin format on an inflatable-bunker playing field.[1]
Tournament
The event took place at Lakes Ranch, with matches contested between teams of five players.
A contemporary report published by the Rotorua Daily Post described a playing area measuring approximately 40 by 22 metres. Teams competed to eliminate opposing players and capture a flag positioned in the centre of the field.[1]
Each of the ten teams was scheduled to compete in a double round-robin competition, earning points towards its overall series standing.
Spectator admission was free.[1]
Participating teams
Tempest, a team associated with Rotorua player Royston Bartholomew, was among the ten participating teams.
Bartholomew was also involved in organising the event. The Rotorua Daily Post reported that Tempest was sixth in the overall series standings before the Rotorua round.[1]
The identities of the remaining participating teams and the complete tournament results have not been established from the recovered contemporary report.
2011 NZPPL series
The Rotorua competition was the second event in a three-round NZPPL programme during 2011.
The opening round had taken place in the Levin area in April, while the final round was scheduled for Waikanae during Labour Weekend in October.[1]
The NZPPL's archived website independently identifies its second event of 2011 as a Queen's Birthday tournament. The version preserved on 14 April 2011 did not yet include the venue or exact dates.[2]
Historical records
The tournament is documented by a contemporary Rotorua Daily Post article and the NZPPL's archived event programme.
These sources establish the venue, competition format, number of teams and the event's position within the 2011 series.
The tournament winner, final standings and individual match results have not been recovered.
