2009 Queen's Birthday Tournament (Palmerston North) was a planned New Zealand tournament paintball event advertised for Queen's Birthday weekend in June 2009 at Aces High Paintball Field, Flygers Line, Palmerston North.[1]

The competition was intended to feature two divisions, with different paintball allowances for experienced and developing teams. Contemporary discussions preserved by the NZ Paintball Message Boards document the tournament's proposed format, entry fees and preparations.[1]

Organisation

The tournament was announced in November 2008 as part of New Zealand's Queen's Birthday tournament calendar.

Aces High Paintball Field in Palmerston North was identified as the venue.

The published announcement specified that the event would follow New Zealand NPPL rules, with separate divisions using unlimited and limited paintball formats.[1]

An announcement updated on 30 March 2009 confirmed the following arrangements:

Competition format

The proposed competition introduced different paintball allowances for the two divisions.

Division 1 was intended to operate with unlimited paintballs, while Division 2 would use a restricted allowance of 12 additional pods per team per game, alongside the paintballs carried in players' loaders.[1]

The divisional arrangements prompted discussion among New Zealand tournament players about the affordability of major competitions and the need to encourage developing teams.

Supporters of limited-paint formats argued that reducing ammunition expenditure could make tournament participation more accessible. Others preferred retaining unlimited paint for established national competitions.[1][2]

The discussions also considered how separate competitive divisions might operate within the same tournament.

Team participation

Contemporary discussions identified interest from established New Zealand tournament teams.

Flashpoint was specifically named as an intended entrant, while possible participation by Blindboyz was also discussed.[1]

A separate contribution indicated interest in entering a team from Wellington.[1]

These statements represent prospective participation. A final confirmed team list has not been recovered.

Historical records

The principal surviving documentation consists of archived discussions from the NZ Paintball Message Boards, hosted on Yuku.

The records preserve the tournament announcement, proposed competition rules, venue, entry fees and discussions concerning tournament organisation.

The available sources do not establish the event's final entry list, whether the competition took place as scheduled, or its results.
