South Pacific Paintball Championships (Australia)
The South Pacific Paintball Championships was an Australian paintball tournament. Its sixth annual edition was held at Adventure Quest Games near Windsor, New South Wales, in 1995 and was won by Top Hat Jokers.[1]
The Australian competition was distinct from the South Pacific Championships held in New Zealand.
1995 championship
[edit]Seven ten-player teams contested the R. P. Scherer-sponsored championship. Games were played across four fields: bush, speedball, drums, and bunkers and trenches.[1]
The Saints travelled from New Zealand but did not qualify for the finals. Other teams identified in the report included SWAT, Black Reign, Hardline and United Newcastle. Black Reign had two squads represented in the finals.[1]
Organisation and rules
[edit]The captains’ meeting took place at Rumcorps Resort, where head referee Peter Russell explained the rules and their enforcement.[1]
The tournament introduced a one-for-one penalty, under which an infringement could result in the elimination of both the offending player and a teammate.[1]
The championship clashed with the Australian Nationals. The contemporary report stated that the scheduling conflict reduced attendance at both events.[1]
Result
[edit]Top Hat Jokers won the championship. The surviving online report does not provide a complete final standings table.[1]
Announced 1996 edition
[edit]The 1995 report announced that the following championship would be held on the Gold Coast in 1996.[1]
