Rob Tapper
Rob Tapper is a New Zealand paintball field operator who owned and operated Commando One Paintball, with facilities in Penrose, Auckland, and Whangārata, near Tuakau. Contemporary records document his involvement in recreational paintball and an early PaintNet tournament during the 1990s.[1][2][3]
Paintball involvement
[edit]Commando One
[edit]A profile published by the New Zealand Paintball website and archived on 4 February 1998 identified Tapper as Commando One's owner and operator. It described a five-acre urban depot and bunker facility in Penrose and the 140-acre Riverland Adventure property at Whangārata.[1]
In the profile, Tapper reported ten years of involvement in paintball, including five applications to councils to run games and the establishment of three fields, two of which remained in operation at the time. He described maintaining the business while improving its facilities as his principal paintball achievement.[1]
The website's contemporary field directory also named Tapper as a Commando One contact. It described the Auckland facility as an urban-style field with predominantly artificial cover and a screened spectator area, and recorded a second field at Whangārata.[2]
A WARPIG Field Finder entry dated 12 April 2000 listed Commando One on Hayward Road, Whangārata, with a contact email bearing Tapper's name.[4]
PaintNet tournament
[edit]Rob Maddox's article “Using the Net to Catch New Players”, published in Australian Paintballer in December 1995–February 1996, credited Tapper with assisting an InterBBS four-player stock-class tournament organised through PaintNet. Tapper also supplied the tournament trophy.[3]
Junior paintball
[edit]During Tapper's operation of the business, Commando One offered a Junior Players Paintball Club for players aged 15 and under. A contemporary club page advertised regular games, competition, reduced playing rates and equipment-purchasing assistance. Membership included a barrel plug and newsletter.[5]
