No Mercy

From WikiPaintball

No Mercy, commonly styled NoMercy or Nomercy, was a Malaysian tournament paintball team and club based in Johor. The team competed principally in the Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL), progressing from Division 3 in 2007 to Division 1 in 2010.[1][2]

No Mercy finished second overall in MY-NPL Division 2 in 2008 and won the division's overall championship in 2009 after reaching the podium at all five events.[1][3] Contemporary records variously rendered its name as No Mercy, NoMercy, Nomercy and in capital letters as NOMERCY; these names referred to the same Johor team.

History

[edit]

2007 season

[edit]

The team's own records document No Mercy competing in Division 3 of the 2007 Malaysian National Paintball League. It reported finishing fourth overall, with fourth-place finishes at the first and third events.[1]

No Mercy also reported winning the novice division of the 2007 Adilla Rakan Muda Paintball Tournament and placing third at both the Johor Bahru Fitness Paintball Challenge and Pekan Fest Paintball Tournament.[1]

2008 season

[edit]

No Mercy began 2008 by placing third in the Pahlawan division of the Pengerang Open 2008, behind S2K and X3MIX.[4]

The team moved into MY-NPL Division 2 for the 2008 season. It finished second to Ballbusters at each of the first two events before winning the third event, held at the Malaysian Paintball Academy in Petaling Jaya on 31 May and 1 June. Ronin Legion placed second, Titanz third and Ballbusters fourth.[5]

Following the third event, No Mercy led the Division 2 season standings with 142 points, two ahead of Ballbusters and ten ahead of Ronin Legion.[6] At the fourth event in Malacca, No Mercy placed third behind Ballbusters and Raiders.[7]

No Mercy finished second to Ballbusters at the season finale in November. Ballbusters won the overall Division 2 championship, with No Mercy finishing second overall. MY-NPL also presented No Mercy with its special team award for 2008.[8]

Outside the national league, No Mercy placed second in the novice division of the 2008 Malaysian Super7 Championship.[1] At the December finale of the Johor Paintball League, it competed in the Open Division against Nemesis, Raskal and Demonz Red. No Mercy defeated Raskal in the semi-final and ultimately placed third.[9]

2009 Division 2 championship

[edit]

No Mercy remained in MY-NPL Division 2 for 2009. The team finished second at each of the opening two events before winning the third event in Kuantan on 20 and 21 June. It defeated Johor Pirates in the final, while Warrior and Oscar Legio-X placed third and fourth.[10]

After the Kuantan event, No Mercy led the championship with 142 points, ahead of Johor Pirates on 130 and Oscar Legio-X on 126.[10] The team then won the fourth event in Malacca. Before the season finale, it held a 19-point lead over Johor Pirates and had reached the podium at all four completed rounds.[3]

No Mercy won the fifth event and secured the 2009 MY-NPL Division 2 overall championship.[1]

The team also placed second in the Amateur division of the 2009 International Super Seven Championship, behind Lemon Ruski.[11] In October it finished second to Marauders Elite in the Amateur/Novice division of the 2009 Malaysian Super Lite.[12]

Division 1

[edit]

Following its Division 2 championship, No Mercy moved into MY-NPL Division 1 for the 2010 season. The team's own record lists a third-place finish at the opening event and a quarter-final appearance at the second event.[2]

No Mercy also reached the Open Division quarter-finals of the 2010 International Super Seven Championship, where the team recorded a sixth-place finish.[2] No complete later-season record has been located.

Organisation

[edit]

The team's published contact information identified it with Bandar Seri Alam in Masai, Johor. In 2009, the club listed Azlan, known as Icey, as team manager; Mohd Fairus Othman as team captain; and Yusni Abd Shanmat, known as Ar Nick, as club chairman.[13]

Published player profiles also documented Kamalul Arifin Alwi, Zainal Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Ramadzan Hassan as members.[1] Some members additionally appeared for Iron Sea or D'Mercy Kidz, but those names represented separately entered teams and their results are not included in No Mercy's record.

The club announced sponsorship support from Energizer Malaysia, Semai Cergas Holding and Armada Urus Engineering during 2009.[1] It stated that the team would use Valken Paintball's Redemption product line during the 2010 season.[14]

Name

[edit]

Contemporary tournament records were inconsistent in their presentation of the team's name. MY-NPL results frequently used No Mercy, while later MY-NPL press releases used Nomercy or the capitalised form NOMERCY.[3][5][10] The team's own website generally used NoMercy Paintball Team or NoMercy Paintball Club.[1][13]

The spaced form No Mercy is used as the article title because it appeared in contemporary organiser results and clearly distinguishes the words while preserving the team's commonly documented name.
