Nemesis Legion
Nemesis Legion, originally known as Nemesis and also represented by Nemesis Paintball Club, is a Malaysian tournament paintball team and club associated with Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The team has competed in the Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL), Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC), Paintball Asia League Series and Paintball World Cup Asia.[1][2]
Nemesis won the MY-NPL Division 1 series championship in 2008 and the league's Semi-Pro championship in 2011.[2][3] Its international results include third place in Division 1 at the 2012 World Cup Asia.[4]
The team is associated with Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy in Shah Alam, which serves as the home and training facility of the modern club. The competition team and the academy are related but distinct subjects.[5]
History
[edit]Formation and early competition
[edit]A historical profile published by the Nemesis organisation states that the original team was formed in late 2005 by combining players from several Malaysian teams. The profile identifies Hector as the team owner and records that the team was assembled to compete in the MY-NPL beginning in 2006.[6]
According to that account, Nemesis won the overall MY-NPL Division 2 championship during its first season. Contemporary independent confirmation of the complete 2006 standings has not been located.[6]
Nemesis competed in MY-NPL Division 1 during 2007. The team won the opening round at Padang Merbok in Kuala Lumpur on 3–4 February, finishing ahead of MacDev Ronin, Demonz and Delta Rovers.[7]
In August, Team Nemesis finished second in Division 2 at the Independence Cup, behind Global Pinoy of the Philippines.[8]
2008 season
[edit]During 2008, contemporary tournament records used both Nemesis and Nemesis Legion for the team. No contemporary announcement establishing a formal change of name has been identified.
Nemesis finished second at the fourth MY-NPL round in Malacca in August.[9] At the fifth-round finale in November, the team won Division 1 ahead of MacDev Ronin, Zealous and Wolverinez Sinar FM. The result secured the 2008 MY-NPL Division 1 series championship for Nemesis Legion.[2]
Nemesis Paintball Club also presented the Malaysian Super7 ’08 in cooperation with MY-NPL. The seven-player tournament was held at the Malaysian Paintball Academy in Petaling Jaya from 30 to 31 August.[10] Contemporary accounts identify Nemesis as the winner of the inaugural Super7 competition.[6]
2009 season
[edit]Nemesis Legion won Division 1 at the fourth round of the 2009 MPOC, held at Xtion Paintball Park in Bukit Jalil on 13–14 June. MacDev Ronin finished second, followed by X-Fox and Xmenz.[11]
The team finished third at the third MY-NPL round in Kuantan later that month.[11] In October, Nemesis Legion won the Open division of the Malaysian Super Lite tournament, ahead of Delta Rovers, Raskal and the Xtioneers.[12]
2010 season
[edit]Nemesis Legion began the 2010 MY-NPL season by winning Division 1 at the opening round. Demonz Red finished second, with NoMercy third and CMX fourth.[13]
In October, the team won the Open division of the inaugural Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup. The tournament was held at the Jubilee Ground in Kuching. Nemesis Legion received RM8,000, the championship trophy, medals and registration for the 2011 Sarawak Cup.[14]
2011 season
[edit]Nemesis Legion won consecutive Division 1 rounds of the 2011 MPOC. The team defeated Demonz Red at the Sultan of Kedah Cup in May and finished ahead of MacDev Ronin at the fourth round in Bukit Jalil in June.[15][16]
At the International Super Seven Championship in Putrajaya, Nemesis Legion finished third in the Open division behind Raskal and Global Gutz Dragon of the Philippines.[17]
The team placed second at the 2011 MY-NPL finale in Malacca, behind Australia's Hostile Intention. Its accumulated season results were sufficient to secure the MY-NPL Semi-Pro overall championship.[3]
Nemesis Legion also competed in Division 1 at the 2011 World Cup Asia in Langkawi. The team advanced to the quarter-finals, where it lost 3–1 to STK of Australia.[18]
2012 World Cup Asia
[edit]Nemesis Legion was identified in contemporary press coverage as the 2012 Malaysia Paintball League champion.[19]
At the 2012 World Cup Asia in Langkawi, the team won all five of its preliminary matches and advanced to the Division 1 quarter-finals.[19] Led by captain Mohd Rezal Jamaluddin, Nemesis Legion progressed to the semi-finals before losing to Thailand's Infernal.[4][20]
Infernal won the division, STK of Australia finished second and Nemesis Legion placed third. The result was independently reported by Social Paintball and Malaysian news coverage.[4][20]
Later competition
[edit]Nemesis Legion continued to compete internationally after 2012. Its PBLeagues record documents participation in Division 1 X-Ball at the 2014 World Cup Asia, where its preliminary results included victories over Beez Waxers, STK and the Xtioneers.[21]
In 2019, Nemesis Legion competed at the Brunei Darussalam Paintball Open. Contemporary Bruneian coverage identified the team among the divisional champions.[22]
The Nemesis name has continued in Malaysian competition through Nemesis Legion and associated teams, including NL Draco Paintball Club. Nemesis Legion was recorded as the overall Open Division champion of the 2025 Malaysia Paintball League under the NL Draco affiliation.[23]
Tournament organisation
[edit]Nemesis Paintball Club has also organised and presented tournaments.
The club worked with MY-NPL to stage Malaysian Super7 ’08 at the Malaysian Paintball Academy.[10] In 2011, Nemesis Paintball Club and the MPOC announced that the PRA Malaysia Open would be combined with the opening round of the 2012 MPOC season.[24]
These organisational activities were conducted under the club identity and should be distinguished from results achieved by the Nemesis Legion competition roster.
Relationship with Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy
[edit]Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy is a competitive paintball training centre and tournament venue at Cahaya SPK in Shah Alam, Selangor. The academy identifies itself as the home ground of Nemesis Legion Paintball Club.[5]
The academy provides tournament fields, coaching and player-development programmes. Its establishment represents a later extension of the Nemesis organisation's competitive and training activities.
The available evidence does not establish that the academy existed during the team’s original formation in 2005. References to the early team should therefore use Nemesis, Nemesis Legion or Nemesis Paintball Club, rather than applying the academy name retrospectively.
