Malaysia Paintball League (MPL)

From WikiPaintball

Malaysia Paintball League (MPL) is a Malaysian tournament paintball league organising multi-round competitive paintball championships. The league operates Open and Amateur divisions and has held events at tournament paintball facilities in Selangor and other parts of Malaysia. [1][2]

MPL is part of Malaysia's modern competitive paintball scene, alongside competitions such as the Malaysian X-Ball League, Malaysia Paintball Super League and Malaysian Super Seven Championship.

The league should not be confused with the earlier Malaysian National Paintball League (MY-NPL) or the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC), which were established during the 2000s.

History

[edit]

Background

[edit]

Malaysia has supported several organised tournament paintball leagues since the early 2000s.

The Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and Malaysian National Paintball League were among the country's earlier national competitions.

Later leagues introduced and developed additional formats, including X-Ball and race-format tournament paintball.

The Malaysia Paintball League represents part of this later period of domestic competition.

The league's precise founding date has not been independently established.

Publicly accessible records document its operation during 2025 and 2026.

The 2025 season

[edit]

The 2025 Malaysia Paintball League season consisted of four published tournament legs.

The events were scheduled between January and November at venues in Selangor.

The league offered Open and Amateur divisions, with different game durations and race formats.

The published tournament calendar was:

Leg Dates Venue State
Leg 1 4–5 January 2025 Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy Selangor
Leg 2 22–23 February 2025 Sri Awana Paintball Selangor
Leg 3 13–14 September 2025 Sri Awana Paintball Selangor
Leg 4 1–2 November 2025 Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy Selangor

These dates and venues were published in the Malaysia Paintball tournament directory. [1][2][3][4]

The 2025 championship

[edit]

The organisers announced the overall 2025 season champions during an appreciation event held on 24 January 2026 at The Spine, Kelana Jaya.

The published championship results identified:

Division Overall champion
Open Nemesis Legion (NL Draco Paintball Club)
Amateur Unknown X

The organisers also recognised individual players through Most Valuable Player awards.

Khubaib Shukri was named Open Division MVP, while Aiman Afandi was named Amateur Division MVP. [5]

The 2026 season

[edit]

On 1 January 2026, MPL announced a four-leg tournament calendar.

The originally published dates were:

Leg Originally announced dates
Leg 1 11–12 April 2026
Leg 2 9–10 May 2026
Leg 3 25–26 July 2026
Leg 4 19–20 September 2026

The organisers opened registration for Leg 1 in February 2026. [5]

Subsequent reporting in Paintball Media Magazine in August 2026 listed Leg 3 for 19–20 September in Pahang and Leg 4 for 7–8 November in the Klang Valley.

These later dates differed from the original January announcement. [6]

The available records should therefore not be interpreted as confirmation that every event occurred on its originally announced date.

Competition format

[edit]

Open Division

[edit]

The Open Division was the league's highest published competitive category during 2025.

The published format specified:

  • Race-to-4 competition
  • Ten-minute game time
  • Maximum of eight registered teams per event
  • Registration fee of RM850 per team

The advertised prize distribution was:

Position Prize
First RM4,000
Second RM2,500
Third RM1,500

These figures were published for the 2025 season and should not be assumed to apply to every subsequent competition. [1]

Amateur Division

[edit]

The Amateur Division provided competition for players in the lower divisional categories.

The 2025 event listings identified the eligible classifications as Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4.

The published format specified:

  • Race-to-3 competition
  • Eight-minute game time
  • Maximum of twelve registered teams per event
  • Registration fee of RM750 per team

The advertised prize distribution was:

Position Prize
First RM3,000
Second RM2,000
Third RM1,000

The Amateur Division provided a competitive pathway for teams below the Open level. [1]

Tournament venues

[edit]

Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy

[edit]

Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy hosted the opening and final legs of the 2025 MPL season.

The facility is located in Selangor and is associated with competitive tournament paintball.

Its role as a regular league venue made it an important location for MPL competition.

The historical relationship between Nemesis Legion Paintball Academy and the earlier Malaysian Paintball Academy requires further verification.

Sri Awana Paintball

[edit]

Sri Awana Paintball hosted the second and third legs of the 2025 season.

The facility provided a second tournament venue within Selangor.

The use of multiple venues distinguished MPL from leagues operating exclusively at a single paintball park.

Organisation and administration

[edit]

MPL maintains its own tournament administration and registration arrangements.

Published 2025 event listings identified a registration team and a league-specific email address.

Fifi Rahman was identified as an organiser contact in 2025 and 2026 announcements.

The league also published official rulebooks and executive summaries for the 2025 season. [3][5]

The precise legal identity and incorporation status of the league's organising entity have not been independently established.

Refereeing

[edit]

The Malaysian Paintball Referee Organisation (M-PRO) was identified as an official officiating partner in the organisers' January 2026 appreciation announcement.

The league thanked M-PRO referees for supporting the 2025 season. [5]

This relationship demonstrates the continuing role of specialist referee organisations in Malaysian tournament paintball.

Media coverage

[edit]

MPL events have been promoted through online tournament directories, social media and specialist paintball media.

The organisers' January 2026 announcement identified AXMedia as a media partner and Goro And Friends as a livestream provider for the 2025 season. [5]

Paintball Media Magazine included the league's later 2026 season dates in its August 2026 issue. [6]

Participation and development

[edit]

MPL provides regular competition for Malaysian paintball teams across different experience levels.

Its Open and Amateur divisions allow teams to participate in formats suited to their competitive classifications.

The league's multi-round structure also encourages sustained participation throughout a season.

For 2026, the organisers announced incentives for teams committing to the entire season, including a waived registration fee for one leg.

They also announced increased prize money, while retaining the existing registration fees. [5]

Relationship to other Malaysian leagues

[edit]

Malaysia Paintball League is one of several domestic tournament circuits operating in Malaysia.

The Malaysian X-Ball League (MXBL) is a separate competition associated with Canyon Paintball.

The Malaysia Paintball Super League (MPSL) also appears in tournament records, including competitions associated with Langkawi.

The earlier Malaysian National Paintball League and Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit were important to the development of domestic tournament paintball during the 2000s.

Although these competitions share a national tournament environment, they should not be treated as a single continuous league without evidence establishing organisational succession.

Historical significance

[edit]

The Malaysia Paintball League illustrates the continued development of organised tournament paintball in Malaysia during the 2020s.

Its multi-round championship structure, divisional competition and use of different venues provide regular opportunities for competitive participation.

The league also demonstrates the involvement of refereeing organisations, specialist media providers and commercial paintball facilities in the Malaysian tournament scene.

Its continued activity during 2026 forms part of the wider history of Paintball in Malaysia.
