KC Damage

From WikiPaintball

KC Damage was a New Zealand competitive paintball team associated with the Kāpiti Coast. Earlier records document the team as Team Damage. A contributor clarification identifies these as the same team in different decades and confirms that KC means Kāpiti Coast.[1]

Team Damage finished fourth in the Second Division at the 2001 New Zealand Paintball Nationals. Competing as KC Damage, the team won the 2013 NZPPL Nationals at Asylum Paintball in Auckland.[3][5]

The team was separate from Christchurch's Damage Inc.

History

[edit]

Team name and continuity

[edit]

A contributor clarification supplied to WikiPaintball identifies Team Damage (Kāpiti Coast) and KC Damage as successive names used by the same team in different decades. It also identifies Jason Newport as a player associated with both periods.[1]

The precise date when the KC Damage name was adopted has not been established. The continuity does not imply an unchanged playing roster.

Team Damage, 2001

[edit]

Team Damage competed at the 2001 New Zealand Paintball Nationals at Actions Paintball in Auckland. Eighteen teams attended the seven-player, two-flag tournament.[3]

Damage qualified for the Second Division finals and finished fourth with 117 final-round points, behind Tag and Training on 180, Damn Natives on 130 and Fusion on 120.[3]

A contemporary newspaper report reproduced on the NZ Paintball forum described the team as Kāpiti paintballers and identified Jason Newport as captain. According to that account, Damage won eleven games, played three to time and lost three across its seventeen tournament games.[2]

The newspaper text was posted on 8 November 2001 and attributed by its poster to the 1 November 2001 edition of the Horwhenua Mail. The surviving source is the forum reproduction.[2]

Junior development and location

[edit]

In a reply dated 13 November 2001, Newport signed on behalf of Team Damage and discussed publicity supporting a newly formed junior club.[2]

The reproduced newspaper report stated that the club hoped to enter three teams, including a junior entry, at the following Hawke's Bay Triples. This was a stated intention rather than confirmation of subsequent participation.[2]

On 2 December 2001, the same forum account corrected a team listing, explicitly stating that Damage was based on the Kāpiti Coast, not Gisborne.[2]

2013 Super 5 Man Series

[edit]

KC Damage competed in the three-event 2013 NZPPL Super 5 Man Series.[4]

At Event 1, held on 9–10 March at El Rancho Holiday Park in Waikanae, the team finished fifth in the Plate classification, corresponding to eleventh overall.[4][6]

At Event 2, held on 1–2 June at Adrenalin Paintball Sports in Paraparaumu, KC Damage finished second in the Cup, behind X-Fighter$ Fracture and ahead of Arachnidz.[4][7]

Following those two events, KC Damage was sixth in the published intermediate series standings. The archived table contains results for the opening two rounds but leaves the third event blank; it is not a completed season table.[4]

2013 Nationals

[edit]

KC Damage won the 2013 NZPPL Nationals, held on 26–27 October at Asylum Paintball in Auckland.[5][8]

A Blacksheep Communications press release published on 16 March 2014 records the leading tournament results:[5]

Position Team
1 KC Damage
2 Wellington Vendetta
3 X-Fighter$ Fracture

KC Damage's Nationals victory was separate from the overall series championship. The release identifies X-Fighter$ as the season winner after two event victories and third place at the final tournament.[5]

Documented personnel

Later KC Damage period; exact playing seasons not specified KC Damage Jason Newport Player, according to contributor clarification [1]

A contemporary November 2001 team-contact discussion also associates Newport with the North Island Damage team.[9]

The sources do not provide complete named rosters for both periods. Newport's participation in both does not establish that the entire earlier squad remained together.

Tournament results

[edit]
Date Published team name Competition Recorded result Source
2001 Damage / Team Damage New Zealand Paintball Nationals 4th in the Second Division; 117 final-round points [2][3]

26–27 October 2013 KC Damage 2013 NZPPL Nationals 1st [5][8]

The 2001 score is a final-round total. The 2013 intermediate series standing is separate from individual event placings.

Distinction from Damage Inc

[edit]

The contemporary team-contact discussion separately identifies Damage in the North Island and Damage Inc in the South Island. A contributor representing the southern team explicitly corrected its name to Damage Inc.[9]

The Christchurch-based Damage Inc was a separate team. Its players, sponsorship and tournament results are not combined with the Kāpiti team's history.
