Greg Hastings Paintball 2

From WikiPaintball

Greg Hastings Paintball 2 is a paintball video game developed by Super X Studios in collaboration with Greg Hastings and published by Majesco Entertainment. It was released for Xbox 360 and Wii in September 2010, followed by a PlayStation 3 release through PlayStation Network in June 2011.[1][2]

The game includes tournament speedball, tournament woodsball and recreational paintball, with fields based on real locations and teams assembled from representations of professional and amateur players.[1]

Development

[edit]

According to Super X Studios president James Thrush, development began in May 2008, with full production starting after Majesco became involved in mid-2009. The project initially focused on Wii before expanding to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.[3]

Hastings worked with the developers to reproduce paintball equipment, playing environments and tactics. The development team attended tournament and woodsball events and played at local fields to gain experience of the sport.[3]

In a launch interview, Hastings explained that photographs and video footage of real paintball fields were used as references when building the game's environments.[4]

Gameplay

[edit]

The game divides its events into three branches: Tournament Speedball, Recball and Tournament Woodsball. Majesco's launch announcement listed 62 fields based on real locations and more than ten single-player and multiplayer modes.[1]

Players manage a ten-player team, recruit and trade teammates, issue field commands and spend tournament earnings on equipment and player improvements. Equipment includes paintball markers, paint grenades and launchers.[1]

Tactical features include a breakout editor and commands for directing teammates. Hastings also highlighted sliding, vertical snapshooting and changing weather conditions among the game's features.[4]

Release and multiplayer

[edit]

Majesco announced the availability of the Xbox 360 and Wii editions on 28 September 2010. At launch, the Xbox 360 version supported online matches with up to 20 players, while the Wii version supported up to eight through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.[1]

The PlayStation 3 edition appeared in the North American PlayStation Store update on 14 June 2011. Its advertised features included PlayStation Move support and online matches between two teams of seven players.[2]

Promotion

[edit]

The game was promoted through Hastings' Tour of Duty, which included visits to paintball fields where players could meet him and try the game. Hastings described the tour as a source of player feedback during development.[4]

The Xbox 360 and Wii launch packages also included a promotional pass offering entry and equipment rental at participating paintball fields.[1]
