Alexey Soloviev
Alexey Soloviev, also written as Aleksey Soloviev, is a Russian paintball coach and former professional player associated with Russian Legion. He joined the organisation in 1996 and played in its championship-winning teams before moving into coaching. He was appointed head coach ahead of the 2013 season and remained part of Red Legion's coaching staff in 2026. [1][2]
Playing career
[edit]Soloviev joined Russian Legion in 1996, during the organisation's early development. Contemporary reporting credits him with winning the 2004 European X-Ball League championship and the 2006 NXL championship as a player. [1]
He was listed on Boston Red Legion's professional roster at the 2006 World Cup. The team defeated the Naughty Dogs 11-3 in the final. [3]
Coaching career
[edit]Transition to coaching
[edit]After his playing career, Soloviev served as Russian Legion's assistant head coach. In December 2012, the club announced that he would replace Maxim Preobrazhenskiy as head coach for the following season. Reporting based on comments from Kirill Prikhidni highlighted Soloviev's experience within the organisation and familiarity with its players. [1]
Moscow Red Legion
[edit]In January 2014, Moscow Red Legion named Soloviev as coach of a roster combining Russian players with members of Toulouse TonTons. The announcement described a three-year strategy to develop the team, supported by a feeder squad whose players could earn promotion to the main roster. [4]
The announced squad included Prikhidni, Denis Golev, Leonid Smotrov, Kevin Coulm and Fabrice Colombo. The club stated that its training programme had begun in December 2013, with practice five days a week. [4]
Soloviev remained part of the organisation during its subsequent NXL campaigns. Official tournament records list him among Moscow Red Legion's staff at the 2017 Atlantic City Open, which the team won by defeating Tampa Bay Damage 4-3 in the final. [5]
Later coaching work
[edit]At the 2025 NXL Midwest Open, Soloviev and Preobrazhenskiy were both registered as Red Legion coaches. The team won the professional tournament, defeating TonTon FSU 5-3 in the final. [6]
Red Legion's official 2026 team page continued to identify Soloviev as a coach, alongside Preobrazhenskiy and Ryan Gray. [2]
