Action Paintball Games is an Australian paintball field operator and tournament venue based at Yarramundi, New South Wales, near Sydney. The business operates recreational paintball facilities and hosts organised competitions, including the Australian Super 7s tournament series and the Total War Paintball scenario events.[1][2]

Action Paintball Games is associated with Australian paintball equipment retailer Paintballshop.com, which identifies Michael Whybrew and John Caruana as the founders of the business in 1994.[3]

History

[edit]

Establishment and Rouse Hill

[edit]

According to Paintballshop.com, Action Paintball Games was established in 1994 by Michael Whybrew and John Caruana.[3]

The business originally operated playing fields at Rouse Hill in north-western Sydney.

A contemporary listing in the WARPIG paintball field directory, dated 19 March 2002, identifies Action Paintball Games at the corner of Annangrove and Edwards Roads, Rouse Hill.[4]

At that time, the venue advertised 18 playing fields across approximately 53 acres, including woodland, constructed playing environments and Sup'AirBall tournament fields. The facility offered rental equipment, compressed-air filling, equipment servicing and organised recreational games.[4]

The Rouse Hill venue subsequently hosted competitive tournaments, including events in the Australian Super 7s series.

Official PBLeagues records identify Action Paintball Games at 290 Annangrove Road as the venue for all four rounds of the 2012 Super 7s season.[5]

Yarramundi

[edit]

Action Paintball Games subsequently operated at Yarramundi, New South Wales, at 770 Springwood Road.

The venue incorporates multiple recreational playing fields alongside facilities for organised tournament competition.

Its recreational environments include woodland fields and constructed obstacles, including the Castle Richenstein, Trenches and Conquest playing areas.[6]

The facility also accommodates tournament training and organised competitions using inflatable bunkers.[1]

Tournament paintball

[edit]

Australian Super 7s

[edit]

Action Paintball Games is closely associated with the Australian Super 7s, a tournament series held in Sydney.

The venue has hosted Super 7s competition for many years, with surviving tournament records documenting events at Rouse Hill in 2012.[5]

In 2015, Sydney Explicit player Aaron McAulay publicly thanked Michael Whybrew, John Caruana and Pete Russell of Action Paintball Games for their work organising and hosting the Australian Super 7s.[7]

The series subsequently continued at the Yarramundi venue.

The Super 7s competition has included professional, semi-professional and amateur divisions, using timed, multi-point paintball formats.

The tournament's official website identifies Action Paintball Games as its principal venue and provides details of competition, training and event organisation.[1]

Player development

[edit]

Action Paintball Games provides facilities for tournament teams and individual players to practise.

The Super 7s organisation advertises regular training opportunities at Yarramundi, including sessions for players using their own equipment and rental packages for those entering competitive paintball.[8]

Scenario paintball

[edit]

Action Paintball Games also hosts Total War Paintball, a series of large-scale scenario events.

Total War competitions involve teams competing across multiple playing fields, with themed missions, objectives and extended games.

The events have incorporated historical and fictional military scenarios, with organised factions, commanders and multiple game objectives.[2]

The organisers have advertised events involving hundreds of participants, including games using smoke effects and pyrotechnics.[9]

Equipment retail

[edit]

Action Paintball Games is associated with Paintballshop.com, an Australian retailer and distributor of paintball equipment.

The business supplies markers, protective equipment, clothing, accessories and compressed-air systems.

Paintballshop.com identifies Action Paintball Games as part of the same business and lists distribution arrangements with manufacturers including Planet Eclipse, HK Army, DLX Technologies and Shocker Paintball.[3]

The retailer has also supported Australian tournament paintball through sponsorship of the Super 7s series and teams including Sydney SWAT.[3]

Industry involvement

[edit]

Michael Whybrew and John Caruana have also been involved in Australian paintball industry organisation.

The Australian Paintball Industry Association identifies Whybrew as its acting president and media relations representative, with Caruana serving as a committee member.[10]
