2022 WCPL ICC/Montressor Classic
The 2022 WCPL ICC/Montressor Classic was a paintball tournament held on 29–31 July 2022 at Paintball Sports New York in Clintondale, New York. Recorded by PBLeagues as the ICC/Montressor Classic, it appeared in both the Iron City Classic event archive and the World Classic Paintball League's 2022 standings.[1][2][3]
Master Blasters won the open ten-player competition, while Albany Power Surge Black won open five-player.[3]
Name and tournament relationships
[edit]The tournament continued the ICC/Montressor event lineage following earlier Iron City Classic tournaments in Pennsylvania. PBLeagues groups the 2022 event with the Iron City Classic events held in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.[2]
A contemporary January 2022 episode of the Popular Unknown Paintball Podcast discussed the relocation of the Iron City Classic/Montressor Classic with Frank and Jennifer Montressor, Kevin Donaldson and Jerry Braun.[4]
The 2022 tournament also contributed results to the WCPL standings. Its inclusion in those standings and its listing under Iron City Classic refer to the same event, rather than separate tournaments.[1][2][5]
It was distinct from the 2022 WCPL New York Classic, held at the same venue in June.[5]
Venue and schedule
[edit]PBLeagues listed the venue as Paintball Sports New York, at 230 Camp Sunset Road, Clintondale, New York, and the overall event dates as Friday, 29 July, to Sunday, 31 July 2022.[1]
The ten-player registration category was labelled Open 10v10 (Sat–Sun), with ten-minute games. Its advertised playing days were therefore 30–31 July.[1]
Published ten-player schedules identify Woods, Mounds and Hyperpipe fields.[6]
Formats
[edit]The final results contain two competitions: Open 10v10 and Open 5v5. Sixteen teams received ten-player placings and eight received five-player placings.[3]
Although the registration page displayed 18 ten-player sign-ups, the published final standings contain 16 ranked teams.[1][3]
