2015 PSP Dallas Open
The 2015 PSP Dallas Open was a Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) tournament held from 13–15 March 2015 at Cousins Paintball in Forney, Texas, United States. Los Angeles Infamous won the professional championship, defeating Houston Heat 5–4 in the final. The event introduced a combined professional opening stage, alongside changes to firing modes and coaching rules.[1][2][3][4]
Venue and conditions
[edit]The tournament took place at Cousins Paintball, 8975 FM 740 South, Forney. Although named the Dallas Open, it was held outside Dallas.[1]
Rain before and during the tournament produced muddy playing conditions, with the grass deteriorating as competition progressed.[3]
Formats and rule changes
[edit]The professional competition used RaceTo-7 with 20-minute games. Divisions 1 and 2 played RaceTo-5, while Divisions 3 and 4 played RaceTo-4. Separate five-player RaceTo-2 competitions were held for Divisions 3 and 4, alongside open pump RaceTo-2.[1]
Unlike the separate professional opening competitions used in 2014, Dallas had a single 16-team professional field, divided into four preliminary brackets of four teams. All 16 advanced to the next round.[2]
The announced 2015 rules also introduced semi-automatic firing for professional players and prohibited outside coaching. PSP chief operating officer Lane Wright discussed these changes in a December 2014 interview with Social Paintball.[4]
Professional competition
[edit]Los Angeles Infamous won all three preliminary matches. In the knockout rounds, Infamous defeated San Antonio X-Factor 5–3 and San Diego Dynasty 7–4 before beating Houston Heat 5–4 in the championship final.[3]
Contemporary coverage also recorded a Challengers final between Chicago Aftershock and Seattle Thunder, which Aftershock won 7–0. Both teams were reported as earning Champions places for the next scheduled event in Nashville.[3]
The official PBLeagues results publish one overall professional classification. The separate Champions and Challengers results below follow Paintball Media's contemporary report.[3][5]
