2014 PSP World Cup

From WikiPaintball

The 2014 PSP World Cup was a Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) tournament held from 9–12 October 2014 at Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, Florida, United States. It was the fifth and final event of the 2014 PSP season. Art Chaos won the professional Champions competition, defeating Tampa Bay Damage 7–0, while Los Angeles Infamous won Challengers. Edmonton Impact secured the professional season championship.[1][2][3][4]

Venue and format

[edit]

The tournament took place at Fantasy of Flight, 1400 Broadway Boulevard Southeast, Polk City.[1]

Both professional divisions used RaceTo-7. Divisions 1 and 2 played RaceTo-5, while Divisions 3 and 4 played RaceTo-4. The programme also included five-player RaceTo-2 competitions for Divisions 2–5, open pump, open 10-player competition and collegiate X-Ball.[1]

Professional competition

[edit]

Champions

[edit]

Art Chaos defeated Tampa Bay Damage 7–0 in the Champions final. Contemporary reporting described Art Chaos repeatedly gaining early eliminations and converting those advantages into points, attacking through both sides and the centre of the field.[3]

The victory followed Art Chaos's win at the 2014 PSP West Coast Open. Edmonton Impact finished third at World Cup, ahead of Los Angeles Ironmen in fourth.[2][5]

Challengers

[edit]

Los Angeles Infamous defeated San Diego Dynasty in the Challengers final. The match remained undecided after regulation and overtime, requiring a one-on-one shoot-out to determine the winner. Seattle Thunder finished third and Chicago Aftershock fourth.[2][3]
