2008 NPPL Houston Open

From WikiPaintball

The 2008 NPPL Houston Open was a cancelled National Professional Paintball League tournament scheduled for 19–21 September 2008 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Planned as the fourth event of the 2008 Super 7 season, it was cancelled following Hurricane Ike.[1][2][3]

Scheduled event

[edit]

The NPPL's announcement of its 2008 dates and venues listed Reliant Stadium as the Houston venue and confirmed 19–21 September as the tournament dates. The announcement survives in a contemporary reproduction published in December 2007.[1]

WARPIG's coverage of the preceding 2008 NPPL Buffalo Open also identified Houston as the scheduled fourth event of the season.[2]

Cancellation

[edit]

A report published by SEBURO on 16 September 2008 stated that the tournament's cancellation had been announced the previous day because of Hurricane Ike.[3]

WARPIG subsequently confirmed the Houston cancellation in its coverage of the season-ending San Diego tournament. The loss of the Houston event removed an opportunity for teams to earn season championship points before the finale.[4]
