2005 NPPL Huntington Beach Open
The 2005 NPPL Huntington Beach Open was the opening tournament of the 2005 NPPL Super 7 season, held from 18–20 March in Huntington Beach, California. San Diego Dynasty won the professional division, defeating Sacramento XSV in the final.[1][2]
Venue and organisation
[edit]Pure Promotions staged the tournament on six beachside fields, with NPPL Action Turf laid over levelled sand.[1]
The event introduced the NPPL's closed professional division, limited to eighteen teams. Professional teams played exclusively against other professionals. The new structure provided for promotion and relegation between professional and semi-professional competition.[1]
Professional competition
[edit]Dynasty lost the opening game of the championship final against XSV, then won the next two to secure the title. It was Dynasty's third consecutive Huntington Beach victory.[1]
San Francisco Avalanche defeated Portland Naughty Dogs in two consecutive games to finish third.[1]
