2005 International Amateur Open
The 2005 International Amateur Open was a paintball tournament and festival in Pennsylvania, United States. Promoted as the DraXxus/Empire International Amateur Open and Paintball Festival, it was scheduled for 27–31 July 2005 near Pittsburgh and marked the fifteenth anniversary of the International Amateur Open.[1][2]
The event combined tournament competition with a scenario game, trade show, industry conference, player clinics and an Owners' Group Division.[1]
Organisation
[edit]Team Effort Events promoted the tournament, with DraXxus and Empire as title sponsors.[1]
The event formed part of the International Amateur Open's period at the Big Butler Fairgrounds. For 2006, the organisers announced a return to Three Rivers Paintball under the name Three Rivers Paintball Festival.[3]
NPPL sanctioning
[edit]The National Professional Paintball League sanctioned the 2005 International Amateur Open. Division II and Division III competitors could earn points towards the NPPL Super 7 season standings.[2]
In contemporary reporting, NPPL president Chuck Hendsch described the arrangement as part of plans to develop sanctioned feeder competitions, providing additional opportunities for divisional teams.[2]
Festival programme
[edit]The advertised programme included an industry conference, equipment trade show, player clinics and an Owners' Group Division.[1]
BlackCat Productions organised a scenario game inspired by The Dukes of Hazzard. A June 2006 retrospective reported that more than 400 players had attended the previous year's scenario game.[1][3]
