2001 NPPL World Cup

From WikiPaintball

The 2001 NPPL World Cup was an international paintball tournament held from 22 to 28 October 2001 in the Orlando area of Florida, United States. Sanctioned by the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL), the tournament featured professional and amateur five-player and ten-player competition.[1]

Dynasty won the professional ten-player championship, while Chicago Aftershock won the professional five-player championship. Aftershock also secured the 2001 NPPL professional season title.[1][2]

Tournament

[edit]

The 2001 World Cup was produced during a period of organisational restructuring within the NPPL and its associated tournament promoters.

Following difficulties with field infrastructure at the 2000 event, organisers revised the venue layout, spectator netting, compressed-air filling facilities and player staging arrangements.

Ten concept fields were prepared, incorporating inflatable bunkers and one Hyperball-style field.

Equipment manufacturers and distributors associated with the playing fields included PMI, Shocktech, DYE Precision, Smart Parts, Diablo Paintball, JT USA, National Paintball Supply, KAPP, Ultimate Air and Kingman/Raven.[1][3]

The five-player competition began on 22 October, followed by ten-player competition later in the week.

Five-player competition

[edit]

The five-player tournament concluded on 24 October.

Chicago Aftershock won the professional division, finishing ahead of Ground Zero Chaos, Ton Ton Flingueurs and the All Americans.

Ten-player competition

The professional final standings were affected by a disputed penalty during the match between Dynasty and Aftershock.

Aftershock player Ronnie Simpkins received a penalty for continuing to play after being hit. Following a review by ultimate judge Bill Cookston, a 12-point deduction was applied to Aftershock's score.

The adjustment placed Dynasty ahead of Aftershock in the final standings.[1]
