1996 NPPL Chicago Open

From WikiPaintball

The 1996 NPPL Chicago Open was a paintball tournament in Illinois during the National Professional Paintball League's 1996 season. Contemporary announcements advertised 26–30 June 1996 at Badlandz near Chicago.[1][2]

The All Americans won the professional five-man competition.[3]

Organisation

[edit]

An NPPL advertisement in Paintball Games International identified Bad Boyz Toyz Inc. as the Chicago Open's promoter.[1]

The contemporary event listing advertised five-man and ten-man competitions, a trade show and cash and equipment prizes. Aftershock was named as the lead refereeing team.[2]

A separate contemporary notice announced a novice-only five-man competition on Sunday.[4]

Advertised entry arrangements

[edit]

Competitors were permitted to bring their own paintballs. The published team entry fees were:[2]

Competition Team entry fee
Five-man US$550
Amateur ten-man US$1,650
Professional ten-man US$2,250

The event listing also advertised air charges of US$50 for five-man teams and US$100 for ten-man teams.[2]

The league's trade advertisement listed a US$100 Chicago trade-show fee.[1]

Professional five-man result

[edit]

The All Americans' professional five-man victory is recorded in “81 Moments that Shaped Paintball”, a historical chronology published in Paintball 2Xtremes in June 2005. The same account lists the team's five-man victories at the 1996 NPPL Las Vegas tournament, New York Cup and World Cup, and identifies the All Americans as the 1996 NPPL five-man series champions.[3]
