1995 NPPL Chicago Open

From WikiPaintball

The 1995 NPPL Chicago Open was a paintball tournament in Illinois and the fourth event of the National Professional Paintball League's 1995 season. Contemporary league advertising billed it as the third annual Chicago Open and advertised 23–27 August 1995 at Challenge Games Lake near Chicago.[1]

Rage won the professional ten-man competition, while the All Americans won the professional five-man competition.[2]

Organisation and programme

[edit]

The Chicago Open followed the 1995 NPPL Pittsburgh Open and preceded the 1995 NPPL World Cup on the published five-event schedule. League advertising announced more than US$50,000 in cash and prizes and named Aftershock as the scheduled refereeing team.[1]

The advertised programme allocated Wednesday and Thursday to five-man competition, followed by ten-man competition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Competitors were permitted to bring their own paintballs.[1]

The published arrangements specified at least four referees on each five-man field and six on each ten-man field.[1]

Advertised entry fees

[edit]
Competition Team entry fee
Five-man US$500
Amateur ten-man US$1,500
Professional ten-man US$2,000

These were the fees stated in the contemporary league advertisement and event listing.[1]

Professional results

[edit]

The following professional victories are recorded in the historical chronology “81 Moments that Shaped Paintball”, published in Paintball 2Xtremes in June 2005.[2]

Competition Winning team
Professional ten-man Rage
Professional five-man All Americans

Ten-man competition

[edit]

Rage's victory followed Bad Company's win at Pittsburgh. The two successive results broke the earlier pattern in which Aftershock, the Ironmen and the All Americans had won every NPPL professional ten-man event through the opening two tournaments of 1995.[2]

Five-man competition

[edit]

The All Americans' Chicago victory was included in the retrospective's list of the team's major five-man wins during 1994–1996. The same account records the All Americans as the 1995 NPPL five-man series champions.[2]
