Nam Wrecking Crew, also styled NAM Wrecking Crew, was a British professional paintball team active during the late 1980s and 1990s. The team competed in major British tournaments, including the Mayhem Masters, and internationally in the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL).[1][2]

Nam Wrecking Crew finished third in the professional division at the 1994 World Cup in Kissimmee, Florida, and ninth at the 1996 NPPL World Cup.[2][3]

History

[edit]

British tournament competition

[edit]

Nam Wrecking Crew was established as a competitive British paintball team by 1989.

A retrospective published by paintball historian Daniel Bacci in April 2017 identifies the team as the runner-up at the inaugural Mayhem Masters in 1989, behind Bart's Stud Squad.[1]

The team also participated in the 1990 Mayhem Masters, competing against established British teams including Bart's Stud Squad, Battlezone Predators and Bad Company.

The 1990 tournament was won by Battlezone Predators, captained by Marcus Davis.[1]

International competition

[edit]

Nam Wrecking Crew competed internationally during the 1990s.

At the 1994 Paintball World Cup, held at Paintball World in Kissimmee, Florida, the team finished third in the professional division.

The professional top four were:

Position Team
1st All Americans
2nd Ironmen
3rd Nam Wrecking Crew
4th Chicago Aftershock

The event was the first World Cup held in Florida following its relocation from New York.[2]

Nam Wrecking Crew continued competing in the American professional division during the mid-1990s.

At the 1996 NPPL World Cup in Orlando, Florida, the team qualified for the professional 10-man semi-finals.

The team finished seventh in the preliminary professional rankings before placing ninth in the final professional standings.[3][4]

Other British teams competing in the professional division at the event included UK Predators and Banzai Bandits.

Later history

[edit]

The surviving tournament records establish Nam Wrecking Crew's participation in major British and American competitions between 1989 and 1996.

Doug Setters is independently documented as a former member of Nam Wrecking Crew through his contribution of historical paintball equipment to a German paintball museum collection.[5]

The team's original founding date, complete competitive roster and final season of competition have not been established.
