Campaign (British paintball team)
Campaign, previously competing as Campaign Power, was a British tournament paintball team active during the early 2000s. The team competed in the Millennium Series, progressing from novice competition in 2001 to Amateur A and subsequently Division 1.[1][2][3]
Campaign Power finished third in the novice division at the 2001 Millennium Series Toulouse tournament in France. The organisation also entered multiple squads in European tournaments under the Campaign Power name.[1][4]
History
[edit]Early competition (2001–2002)
[edit]Campaign Power was competing in the Millennium Series by 2001.
At the 2001 Mayhem Masters in the United Kingdom, the team participated in the novice division.[5]
The team's most significant documented result came at the Millennium Series Toulouse tournament in July 2001.
Campaign Power qualified first in both the preliminary and semi-final stages before finishing third in the novice division, behind France's Jaguars Elfes and Denmark's Wikings.
The result was reported by WARPIG and the French newspaper La Dépêche du Midi.[1][6]
Contemporary WARPIG reporting also documented the team undertaking practice and filming activities for a planned paintball television programme on Bravo.[1]
Campaign Power continued competing in 2002.
At the Millennium Series tournament in Lisbon, Portugal, the main Campaign Power squad finished thirteenth in the amateur preliminary standings.
A second squad, Campaign Power Red, finished nineteenth in the novice preliminary standings.[4]
During the 2002 Toulouse World Cup, Campaign Power competed against San Diego Dynasty.
The match was closely contested before Dynasty secured victory with 25 seconds remaining.
Andy Scutt was among the Campaign Power players identified in contemporary coverage.[7]
Amateur competition (2003–2004)
[edit]By 2003, Campaign Power was competing in the Amateur A division of the Millennium Series.
At the MAXS European Masters in Germany, the tournament entry list identified Campaign Power in Amateur A and Campaign Power Red in Amateur B.[2]
The organisation also used the name Campaign 2K4 during 2004.
The Campaign 2K4 name is documented in a contemporary collection of tournament jerseys belonging to former player Colin Graham.[8]
Division 1 competition (2005)
[edit]In 2005, the team competed under the shortened name Campaign.
The organisation was entered in Division 1 at the Millennium Series Dutch Masters in Amsterdam and the World Cup in Paris.
Campaign also appeared in the Division 1 entry list for the 2005 Campaign Cup in Birmingham, England.[3][9][10]
The team's later competitive history has not been conclusively established.
Associated team names
[edit]Historical records identify several names used by Campaign-affiliated squads, including:
- Campaign Power
- Campaign Power Red
- Campaign 2K4
- Campaign
A 2006 tournament jersey also documents the name Campaign Jaguars, although the precise organisational and roster relationship between that squad and the earlier Campaign teams has not been established.[8]
