The 2001 NPPL Los Angeles Open was the opening tournament of the 2001 National Professional Paintball League season, held at SC Arenas, part of SC Village in Corona, California, in March 2001. It included professional and amateur ten-man competition and amateur, novice and rookie five-man divisions.[1][5]

Ground Zero won professional ten-man, Team Strange won Amateur A and Warped Kids won Amateur B. Sinister, Full Breach II and American Heat II won the five-man divisions.[2][3][4]

Organisation and conditions

[edit]

Heavy rain before the tournament left muddy parking and staging areas. Five-man competition began on Tuesday and concluded on Wednesday; ten-man preliminaries started on Friday, followed by semi-finals and finals on Sunday.[1]

Field layouts were modified before the event, including changes to inflatable bunkers and the addition of Ultimate Airball obstacles to Hyperball fields.[1]

Bob Long's Ironmen helped referee five-man competition. The Southern California Ironmen, The Family and Fury refereed ten-man.[1]

Professional debut

[edit]

Dynasty made its NPPL professional debut, reached the final and finished third.[1][2]

Ten-man results

Ground Zero won the professional final with 281 points, ahead of Lockout, Dynasty and Aftershock.[2]
