1995 NPPL Dallas Open
The 1995 NPPL Dallas Open was a paintball tournament in the Dallas area of Texas, opening the National Professional Paintball League's 1995 season. Contemporary league advertising billed it as the third annual Dallas Open and advertised 1–5 March 1995 at Joe Poole Lake near Dallas.[1]
The Ironmen won the professional ten-man competition, securing their third consecutive Dallas Open victory. The All Americans won the professional five-man competition.[2]
Organisation and programme
[edit]The Dallas Open was the first of five tournaments on the published 1995 NPPL schedule, preceding the 1995 NPPL San Diego Open. The league advertised more than US$50,000 in cash and prizes for the Dallas event.[1]
The published programme scheduled five-man competition for Wednesday and Thursday, followed by ten-man competition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Texas Storm and the Texas Black Diamonds were named as the scheduled refereeing teams.[1]
The contemporary event listing specified a minimum of four referees on each five-man field and six on each ten-man field. Competitors were permitted to bring their own paintballs.[1]
Advertised entry fees
[edit]| Competition | Team entry fee |
|---|---|
| Five-man | US$500 |
| Amateur ten-man | US$1,500 |
| Professional ten-man | US$2,000 |
These were the fees published in the contemporary tournament listing.[1]
Competition
[edit]Professional ten-man
[edit]The Ironmen won the professional ten-man competition. A historical account published in Paintball 2Xtremes recalled the team defeating Bad Company during the professional finals and recorded Shane Pestana celebrating the victory.[2]
The result followed the Ironmen's wins at the 1993 and 1994 Dallas Opens, giving the team three consecutive victories at the tournament.[2]
Professional five-man
[edit]The All Americans won the professional five-man competition. Their Dallas victory was included in a retrospective list of the team's major five-man tournament wins between 1994 and 1996.[2]
Compressed-air supply
[edit]A contemporary profile of Marine Team One documented the team's role in supplying compressed air during the event. Captain Jim Miller told Action Pursuit Games that the compressed-air system installed in the team's travelling truck became the tournament's only working compressed-air source for its final two days.[3]
The truck carried compressed-air tanks, a compressor and a generator. Miller explained that the vehicle also enabled the team to travel to tournaments on a limited budget.[3]
