The 1994 NPPL Dallas Open was a paintball tournament held in the Dallas area of Texas, opening the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL)'s second season. It was advertised for 2–6 March 1994, with professional and amateur competition in five-man and 10-man formats.[1][2]

The Ironmen won professional 10-man, Washington Reign won amateur 10-man, GBD won professional five-man, and Bad Karma won amateur five-man.[3][4]

Programme and entries

[edit]

The published programme allocated Wednesday and Thursday to five-man competition, followed by 10-man competition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.[1]

The Dallas event had an advertised capacity of 32 teams. A season preview in Action Pursuit Games reported that it had sold out; NPPL treasurer Renick Miller stated that places had been filled a month before the tournament.[2]

Dallas was followed on the league's schedule by the D.C. Cup, advertised for 27 April–1 May.[1][2]

Entry conditions and refereeing

[edit]

The NPPL's January announcement listed the following entry fees:[1]

Competition Advertised entry fee
Five-man US$500 per team
Amateur 10-man US$1,500 per team
Professional 10-man US$2,000 per team

All 1994 NPPL tournaments were advertised as bring-your-own-paint events. The announcement also stated that CO2 would be available at Dallas for US$30 per 50-pound bottle.[1]

Members of Texas Storm and the Texas Black Diamonds were scheduled to provide the Dallas refereeing staff. The league announced a minimum of six judges on each 10-man field and four on each five-man field.[1]

The published competition structure provided for the leading eight professional and eight amateur teams in each category to advance into separate semi-final and final rounds.[1]

Washington Reign correction

Ironmen's Dallas record

[edit]

The professional 10-man victory was the Ironmen's second consecutive Dallas Open win, following their success at the 1993 tournament. They subsequently won again in 1995, completing three consecutive Dallas victories.[5]
