Paintball West was a paintball operation run by Wayne Rolleston at Kumeu Showgrounds, Auckland, New Zealand. Documented in 2002, it operated a Sup'Air inflatable field and hosted tournament competition, including the 2002 Northland Open and rounds of the 2002 Paintball West 3-Man League.[1][2][3]

History

[edit]

A contemporary Auckland field directory listed Paintball West at Kumeu Showgrounds with a Sup'Air field.[1] Rob Maddox's report on the 2002 Northland Open described the site as relatively new, with flat ground for the inflatable field, a partly shaded safe area overlooking play and a wooden shed used as a rest and gathering area.[2]

Tournament activity

[edit]

Rolleston organised the 2002 Northland Open after Brent Matthews, who had organised previous editions in Whangārei, was unable to run that year's tournament. Eight teams competed in seven-player, two-flag games under NZPPA rules. Phantom and Kamo Karzi provided referees. Saints won Division One and Tag and Training won Division Two.[2]

Paintball West also ran a monthly three-player league at Kumeu. The March 2002 report described centre-flag games on the Sup'Air field and identified Rolleston as the organiser, field owner and a member of Phantom. March was the second completed round of the planned ten-round competition.[3]

Extreme Events

[edit]

Rolleston also headed the Auckland paintball organisation Extreme Events. A report on the 2002 Rotorua Volcanic tournament stated that Extreme Events had purchased the Sup'Air field used at the previous year's Rotorua tournament and brought it back for the 2002 event.[4]

The Companies Register records Extreme Events Limited (company number 1142960) as incorporated on 25 July 2001, with Wayne Anthony Rolleston as its director and a registered office in Huapai. The company is recorded as removed from the register.[5]
