The 2002 Northland Open was a seven-player paintball tournament held at Paintball West in Auckland, organised by Wayne Rolleston. Eight teams competed, with Saints winning Division One and Tag and Training winning Division Two.[1]

Organisation and venue

[edit]

Organisation of the Northland Open passed to Rolleston after Brent Matthews, who had organised previous editions in Whangārei with Paint Contractors, was unable to run the 2002 event.[1]

An announcement published on 30 December 2001 advertised the tournament for 16 March 2002 at Kumeu Showgrounds, with unlimited paint and an entry fee of NZ$100 per team. The subsequent tournament report confirms that the event took place at Paintball West's Auckland site, but does not specify the playing date or name the showgrounds.[1][2]

Format

[edit]

Teams played seven-a-side games with a flag at each end of an inflatable field, using New Zealand Paintball Players Association rules. Phantom and Kamo Karzi supplied the referees.[1]

Results

[edit]

Saints finished first in the combined standings with 666 points. Tag and Training finished second overall with 503 points and won Division Two.[1]

Overall place Team Points Division
1 Saints 666 Division One winner
2 Tag and Training 503 Division Two winner

4 Tag and Release 410 Division One
5 Titans 403 Division One

[edit]

Adam Pinfold of Goblins received the award described in the tournament report as Player of the Match.[1]
