2008 Paintball Direct Speedball End of Year Blowout was a five-player paintball tournament held on 27 December 2008 at Te Kiri Hall, near Ōpunake in the Taranaki region of New Zealand. The event was organised by Steve Corkill of Paintball Direct NZ.[1]

Contemporary records from the NZ Paintball Message Boards document twelve registered teams, the event's format and arrangements, and a post-event account confirming that the tournament took place.[1]

Organisation

The tournament was announced on 4 November 2008, with Steve Corkill identified as the organiser.[1]

The event was scheduled for Saturday, 27 December 2008, at Te Kiri Hall on Eltham Road, approximately 10 kilometres inland from Ōpunake.

The playing field was to be established on Boxing Day, 26 December, allowing visiting players to practise before the tournament.

The published arrangements included:

The list represents registrations rather than a verified final attendance record.

Several names also appeared in contemporary regional tournament paintball records, including those associated with Wanganui Speedball.

The surviving documentation does not establish the complete player rosters.

Tournament

The competition took place on 27 December 2008.

A post-event message published on 29 December thanked Steve Corkill for organising the tournament and confirmed that participants had attended.[1]

The original discussion does not contain the final standings, match scores or the names of the winning teams.

The available records also do not establish whether the proposed two-division format was adopted.

Facilities and community support

The organiser advertised accommodation arrangements at the Te Kiri Hall venue, including space for camping and sleeping inside the building.

Food, refreshments and shower facilities were also advertised for visiting players.[1]

The local surf lifesaving club was invited to operate catering facilities during the event.

The organiser stated that any profits would be directed to the Ōpunake Surf Life Saving Club. The amount, if any, ultimately donated has not been established.

Historical records

The principal surviving source is an archived Yuku discussion titled Paintball Direct Speedball End of Year Blowout, published between November and December 2008.[1]

It preserves the original event announcement, venue details, paintball prices, registration list and confirmation that the tournament took place.

The complete results have not been recovered.
