Paintball Skirmish is an Australian recreational paintball field operator based in the Swan Valley, Western Australia. Established in 1992, the business initially operated mobile paintball games around Perth before opening a permanent venue at Henley Brook in 1998.[1]

The company describes itself as the first legally registered paintball operator in Western Australia and the state's longest-operating paintball business. These claims have not been independently established from historical business registration records.[1]

History

[edit]

Establishment (1992)

[edit]

Paintball Skirmish was established in Western Australia in 1992.

According to the company's published history, its original operations involved organising mobile paintball games at customers' premises around Perth.[1]

The business subsequently expanded its activities as demand for recreational paintball increased.

Paintball Skirmish describes itself as family-owned and operated since its establishment.

Swan Valley venue (1998)

[edit]

In 1998, Paintball Skirmish established a permanent playing facility in the Swan Valley, northeast of Perth.[1]

The venue is located at 12191 West Swan Road, Henley Brook, Western Australia.[2]

The site occupies approximately 25 acres of natural bushland and contains multiple playing areas incorporating trees, constructed obstacles and themed structures.

The business operates recreational paintball sessions for individuals, private groups and corporate customers.

Facilities

[edit]

Paintball Skirmish operates several outdoor playing areas within its Swan Valley property.

The company's published field descriptions include:

  • Gun Range
  • Trenches
  • The Pit
  • General Bushlands
  • Storm the Bus
  • Pellet Maze
  • Barrel Barrage

The fields use a combination of natural woodland cover and constructed obstacles.[3]

The venue provides rental paintball markers, protective masks and other equipment.

Organised sessions are supervised by referees who provide safety instructions and explain game rules.

The facility also offers Splatball, a lower-impact activity intended for younger participants.[3]

Regulation of paintball in Western Australia

[edit]

Paintball Skirmish began operating during a period when the legal status of paintball in Western Australia was disputed.

On 17 June 1993, the Western Australian Government announced plans to prohibit paintball, citing concerns about the classification of paintball markers under firearms legislation.[4]

The government subsequently introduced a regulatory framework permitting licensed paintball activities.

On 23 December 2004, the Western Australian Government announced that paintball would be legalised from 1 January 2005, subject to licensing requirements.[5]

Paintball Skirmish's claim to have been the first legally registered operator in 1992 should be understood in the context of these subsequent regulatory developments.

The available sources do not establish the precise legal registration or licensing arrangements under which the business operated before 2005.

Operations

[edit]

Paintball Skirmish operates recreational paintball sessions throughout the week, subject to advance bookings.[2]

The venue caters for private groups, corporate activities, sporting clubs and other organised recreational events.

Its proximity to Perth distinguishes it from paintball facilities located farther from the metropolitan area.

The business continues to operate under the Paintball Skirmish name.
