Sultan of Kedah Cup 2008, contemporaneously styled The Sultan of Kedah Cup 2008, was a Malaysian tournament paintball event held at The Carnivall in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on 19 and 20 July 2008.[1][2] The tournament was promoted as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah's reign as Sultan of Kedah.[1]

Contemporary promotional material listed the State of Kedah as the main organiser, with PALS Events and the Kedah Paintball Association as co-organisers.[1] A total prize fund of RM45,000 was offered across three divisions.[1][2]

Format

[edit]

The tournament comprised Open, Amateur/Novice and Kedah Closed divisions.[1]

Division Eligibility and format
Open Open to local and international teams, including teams competing in Divisions 1 and 2 of the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit and Malaysian National Paintball League. PSP, Millennium and semi-automatic firing modes were permitted, capped at 15 balls per second.[1]
Amateur/Novice Open to local and international teams competing in Divisions 3 and 4 of the Malaysian circuits. Markers were restricted to semi-automatic operation, capped at 15 balls per second.[1]
Kedah Closed Restricted to teams fielding at least four players from Kedah. House markers were available for this division.[1]

Prize money was offered through eighth place in the Open and Amateur/Novice divisions and through tenth place in the Kedah Closed division.[1] The advertised first prizes were RM8,000 for Open, RM6,000 for Amateur/Novice and RM2,000 for Kedah Closed.[1]

Two tournament fields were used. A contemporary participant report identified them as the Millennium field and Draxxus field, with the Amateur/Novice and Kedah Closed divisions using a clay-surfaced field.[2][3]

Results

[edit]

The recovered results cover the first eight positions in the Open and Amateur/Novice divisions.[2][4] Complete results for the Kedah Closed division have not been located.
