Sarawak Cup was a Malaysian tournament paintball competition first held on 9 and 10 January 2010 in Kuching, Sarawak. The inaugural tournament comprised two five-player divisions and one three-player division. Raskal, SSC Killers and Pitbull won the respective divisions.[1][2]

The Sarawak Cup was separate from the Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup, another tournament held in Kuching during 2010.[3]

2010 tournament

[edit]

The inaugural Sarawak Cup was held at the BPP Stadium Paintball Field, situated at the football fields adjoining the new Sarawak State Stadium in Kuching.[1] Contemporary publicity described it as the first Sarawak Cup and identified Skirmish Paintball Asia and Borneo Paintball Proshop as its principal sponsors.[1]

The competition used two speedball fields and was divided into three categories:

  • Division A was a five-player open division with ramping limited to 15 balls per second.
  • Division B was a five-player division which restricted each team to one Division 1 player from the Malaysian Paintball Official Circuit or Malaysian National Paintball League.
  • Division C was a three-player competition using supplied semi-automatic markers. Each team was permitted no more than one Division 2 player from those national circuits, while Division 3 players were eligible.[1]

The organisers' pre-tournament list contained six Division A teams, fourteen Division B teams and eight Division C teams.[1]

Results

[edit]

The following placings were published after the tournament.[2]

Division Position Team
Division A 1 Raskal
2 Nemesis
3 Deltarovers
4 Beezwaxers
Division B 1 SSC Killers
2 North Borneo Syndicate
3 Sarawak Raiders
4 Phantom X
Division C 1 Pitbull
2 SSC Happy
3 Rukun 13
4 Unknown Soldier

A contemporary participant record independently identifies the tournament dates and records North Borneo Syndicate as the Division B runner-up.[4]

Proposed 2011 tournament

[edit]

Entry to a proposed 2011 Sarawak Cup was offered as part of the prize package at the inaugural Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup in October 2010.[3] Villain Paintball subsequently advertised a Sarawak Cup tournament for 19 and 20 March 2011.[5] No reliable record confirming that this edition took place, or documenting its results, has been identified.
