1996 Earon Carter Invitational Stock Tournament
The 1996 Earon Carter Invitational Stock Tournament was a five-player stock-class paintball tournament held on 16–17 March 1996 at SC Village in Corona, California, United States. Organised by paintball marker designer Earon Carter, the event brought together 16 teams from the western United States, Hawaii and Canada. Combat Crew of Hawaii won the tournament, defeating the Dragoons by six points.[1][2]
The tournament was also known as the Earon Carter Stock Class Invitational and the Carter Stock Invitational.
Format
[edit]The competition was restricted to stock-class pump markers. The event rules generally required markers to use a single 12-gram CO2 cartridge, manual pump action and a tube-style magazine holding no more than 20 paintballs parallel to the barrel. Some equipment that departed slightly from the strict technical definition was permitted when it remained consistent with the intended stock-class format.[1][2]
Common markers included Carter Machine Buzzards and Component Concepts Phantoms, alongside Sheridan-based markers and a smaller number of Brass Eagle Nightmares.[2]
The 16 five-player teams were divided into two groups on Saturday. Each team played every other team in its group, ensuring that all entrants received a full first day of competition. The six highest-scoring teams advanced to the Sunday finals.[1][2]
Teams travelled from across the western United States, with one team attending from Hawaii and two from Edmonton, Canada. Most of the remaining entrants were from Southern California.[1]
Tournament
[edit]Combat Crew finished first with 371 points, six points ahead of the second-placed Dragoons. Grizwald I placed third. The finals were closely contested, with any of the six finalists still capable of winning during the final stages of play.[1]
Combat Crew was awarded five customised blue Carter Machine Buzzard stock markers. Prizes were provided through Carter Machine, TASO, Worr Game Products, Component Concepts and other tournament sponsors, with awards extending to twelfth place.[1][2]
Head referee Joe Ecklund received a Carter stock marker in recognition of his work at the tournament. The Pink Fluffy Bunnies, competing in their first tournament, received the event's sportsmanship award.[1]
