Early competition (2005–2008)
Early development
Datis was competing internationally by 2005 and had developed into a leading Iranian tournament team by 2006.
An archived team index from December 2010 describes Datis as "Since 2004".[7]

At the inaugural World Cup Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held from 8 to 10 December 2006, Datis won the Division 1 championship and the overall PALS season title.[1]
In a March 2010 interview originally published by ProPaintball.com, Aco Amir identified Babak Esmaeily and Reza Badrian as teammates involved in creating Datis. He described having played with the team for six years.[8]

The team retained the PALS season championship in 2007.
The team's website preserved player profiles, competition reports, photographs and links to a discussion forum and Yahoo group.[9][10]

At the 2007 World Cup Asia, Datis reached the Division 1 final against South Africa's Reaper, finishing second.[2]
Asian championships, 2006–2007
A contemporary article published by Paintball in Singapore 101 in November 2008 identified Datis as one of the leading Asian tournament teams, noting its international results and sponsorship from Planet Eclipse.[2]
At World Cup Asia in Kuala Lumpur in December 2006, Datis won Division 1 and the overall PALS season championship.[1]

Iranian national competition
Datis retained the overall PALS title in 2007. At that year's World Cup Asia, it finished second in Division 1 behind South Africa's Reaper.[2]

Datis also competed in domestic Iranian tournaments.
Competition in 2009–2010
In March 2010, player Aco Amir described the team's success in the Iran Paintball League in an interview originally published by ProPaintball.com.
In March 2009, Datis finished second behind the American Ironmen at the Golden Palm tournament at Kish Olympic Stadium, Iran. Mehr News Agency reported nine foreign and twenty Iranian teams at the event.[11]

Amir reported that Datis had won four consecutive league tournaments during the preceding season, securing another Iranian championship.[3]
In July, Datis finished third at the Asian Paintball Invitational Tournament in Taiwan, behind Germany's Ramstein Instinct and Australia's SWAT.[12]

Contemporary coverage of the 2009 Iranian National Paintball League also identified Datis as the overall professional champion, with Persian Legend second and Datis 2 third.[4]
The March 2010 ProPaintball.com interview reported that Datis had won all four events of the preceding Iranian league season, defeating Persian Legend at the final tournament.[8]

2009 international competition
At World Cup Asia in November 2010, Datis won Division 1 ahead of France's Bad Elements, Australia's STK and Malaysia's Ronin. The team also secured the overall 2010 PALS championship.[3][13]

In July 2009, Datis represented Iran at the Asian Paintball Invitational Tournament in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, held alongside the 2009 World Games.
World Cup Asia 2011
The tournament was an invitational paintball competition rather than an official World Games medal event.
Datis successfully defended its World Cup Asia Division 1 title in Langkawi in November 2011.

Datis finished third, behind Germany's Ramstein Instinct and Australia's Sydney SWAT. Japan's KU finished fourth.[5]
A contemporary Bernama report identified Babak Datis Esmaily as the team's leader. Datis defeated Malaysia's Demon 4–0 in the quarter-final and Australia's STK 3–2 in the semi-final before beating Reaper 4–1 in the final. The team received US$50,000 and the championship trophy.[4]

2010 World Cup Asia championship
Datis also finished third in the accompanying Intercontinental Cup, behind France's Toulouse TonTons and the American Ironmen.[14]

Datis competed in Division 1 of the 2010 Paintball Asia League Series.
Iranian national competition
At the Philippines International Championship in August, the team finished third behind PbRack Team USA and Australia's STK.[6]
The Iran Paintball Association's results for the Babolsar event of 14–16 December 2011 placed Datis first in the men's first division, followed by Hype and Persian Legend Two.[15]

The season concluded with World Cup Asia at Padang Merbok in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 26 to 28 November.
The team's archived February 2012 news identified Datis as the overall INPL champion for the Iranian calendar year 1390 and named Hype as its opponent in the final.[16]

Datis won Division 1, finishing ahead of France's Bad Elements, Australia's STK and Malaysia's Ronin.
Planet Eclipse independently reported the championship on 27 February 2012. Its account also recorded Diako winning Division 2 and securing promotion, while Datis Girls won the women's cup and the women's 1390 title.[5]

The team also secured the overall 2010 PALS championship and received the Best From Nation award for Iran.[7]
An association report preserved in November 2014 described a seven-round premier league involving eight teams. It named Datis as champion, followed by Ariaman and Griffin.[17]

2011 World Cup Asia championship
Later international results
Datis continued competing successfully in 2011, finishing second at the PALS Bangkok tournament behind Thailand's Infernal.[8]
Datis finished third in Division 1 at the 2013 NAZA World Cup Asia, behind Johannesburg Dynamix and Raskal Malaysia.[18]

At World Cup Asia in Langkawi, Malaysia, held in November 2011, Datis successfully defended its Division 1 championship.
PBLeagues records another third-place World Cup Asia finish in 2014 and fourth place in the overall PALS Division 1 standings that year.[19][20]

Led by Babak Datis Esmaily, the team defeated Australia's STK 3–2 in the semi-finals before facing South Africa's Reaper in the final.
The same competition database records Datis finishing ninth of sixteen Division 1 teams at World Cup Asia in 2015 and second of eleven in 2016. It also records third place in Open X-Ball at the Melaka International XBall Cup in April 2018.[19]

Datis won the championship match 4–1, securing its second consecutive World Cup Asia title and third overall.
PALM competition
The team received US$50,000 in prize money.[9]
On 8 October 2017, Planet Eclipse reported that Tehran Datis had won Division 1 at the penultimate Iranian PALM event. Shemiranat Datis finished second in Division 2 at the same event.[6]

Datis also competed in the Intercontinental Cup held alongside the tournament.
The report described both teams as being in contention for their respective season titles; those statements preceded the final round and were not final championship results.[6]

The Iranian team finished third behind France's Toulouse TonTons and the American Ironmen, ahead of Australia's STK.[10]

Later international competition
The team's main player page, archived on 30 April 2007, listed the following players. Names, positions and numbers reproduce the spellings and descriptions on that page rather than an event-specific roster.[9]

Associated teams
Notable players and personnel
Contemporary reporting describes Datis as an organisation with several teams. Planet Eclipse's February 2012 report explicitly associated Diako with Datis and identified Datis Girls as its women's team.[5]

Documented members of Datis include:
Datis Girls competed in World Cup Asia Division 3 in 2012 and 2013, finishing 44th of 46 and 25th of 54 respectively.[21]

* Babak Datis Esmaily – Team captain during the 2011 World Cup Asia championship. Also identified in earlier sources as Babak Ismaili.[9]
The 2017 PALM report separately identified Tehran Datis and Shemiranat Datis in different divisions.[6]
* Aco Amir – Iranian professional player who represented Datis in domestic and international competition, including during the 2009–2010 period.[3]
* Reza Badrian – Early team member identified by Aco Amir as one of the players involved in the team's formation and development.[3]

Sponsorship
Sponsorship
Datis maintained an equipment sponsorship relationship with Planet Eclipse during several periods of its competitive history.
The archived Datis website identified Behrooz Food Industries and DYE as sponsors in its account of the 2006 PALS championship.[22]

The team was identified as an Eclipse-sponsored organisation in November 2008.

In March 2010, Aco Amir reported that Datis also received equipment support from DYE Precision and JT USA, including paintball loaders, protective equipment and accessories.[2][3]
Datis was identified as Planet Eclipse sponsored in a November 2008 report. In his March 2010 interview, Aco Amir also named DYE and JT as equipment supporters.[2][8]

Planet Eclipse continued supporting the organisation during 2017, supplying custom Datis CS1.5 electronic paintball markers through One4One Paintball.[14]
In 2017, Planet Eclipse reported that the organisation had received custom Datis CS1.5 markers through One4One Paintball.[6]

Datis, also known as Team Datis or Datis Paintball, is an Iranian tournament paintball team associated with Tehran. It won Division 1 at Paintball World Cup Asia in 2006, 2010 and 2011, and the overall Paintball Asia League Series (PALS) championship in 2006, 2007 and 2010.[1][2][3][4]

The wider Datis organisation has fielded several teams, including Datis Girls. Datis also competed in the Iran National Paintball League (INPL) and Iranian PALM events.[5][6]

History

Early development

An archived team index from December 2010 describes Datis as "Since 2004".[7]

In a March 2010 interview originally published by ProPaintball.com, Aco Amir identified Babak Esmaeily and Reza Badrian as teammates involved in creating Datis. He described having played with the team for six years.[8]

The team's website preserved player profiles, competition reports, photographs and links to a discussion forum and Yahoo group.[9][10]

Asian championships, 2006–2007

At World Cup Asia in Kuala Lumpur in December 2006, Datis won Division 1 and the overall PALS season championship.[1]

Datis retained the overall PALS title in 2007. At that year's World Cup Asia, it finished second in Division 1 behind South Africa's Reaper.[2]

Competition in 2009–2010

In March 2009, Datis finished second behind the American Ironmen at the Golden Palm tournament at Kish Olympic Stadium, Iran. Mehr News Agency reported nine foreign and twenty Iranian teams at the event.[11]

In July, Datis finished third at the Asian Paintball Invitational Tournament in Taiwan, behind Germany's Ramstein Instinct and Australia's SWAT.[12]

The March 2010 ProPaintball.com interview reported that Datis had won all four events of the preceding Iranian league season, defeating Persian Legend at the final tournament.[8]

At World Cup Asia in November 2010, Datis won Division 1 ahead of France's Bad Elements, Australia's STK and Malaysia's MacDev Ronin. The team also secured the overall 2010 PALS championship.[3][13]

World Cup Asia 2011

Datis successfully defended its World Cup Asia Division 1 title in Langkawi in November 2011.

Datis also finished third in the accompanying Intercontinental Cup, behind France's Toulouse TonTons and the American Ironmen.[14]

Iranian national competition

The Iran Paintball Association's results for the Babolsar event of 14–16 December 2011 placed Datis first in the men's first division, followed by Hype and Persian Legend Two.[15]

The team's archived February 2012 news identified Datis as the overall INPL champion for the Iranian calendar year 1390 and named Hype as its opponent in the final.[16]

Planet Eclipse independently reported the championship on 27 February 2012. Its account also recorded Diako winning Division 2 and securing promotion, while Datis Girls won the women's cup and the women's 1390 title.[5]

An association report preserved in November 2014 described a seven-round premier league involving eight teams. It named Datis as champion, followed by Ariaman and Griffin.[17]

Later international results

Datis finished third in Division 1 at the 2013 NAZA World Cup Asia, behind Johannesburg Dynamix and Raskal Malaysia.[18]

PBLeagues records another third-place World Cup Asia finish in 2014 and fourth place in the overall PALS Division 1 standings that year.[19][20]

The same competition database records Datis finishing ninth of sixteen Division 1 teams at World Cup Asia in 2015 and second of eleven in 2016. It also records third place in Open X-Ball at the Melaka International XBall Cup in April 2018.[19]

PALM competition

On 8 October 2017, Planet Eclipse reported that Tehran Datis had won Division 1 at the penultimate Iranian PALM event. Shemiranat Datis finished second in Division 2 at the same event.[6]

The report described both teams as being in contention for their respective season titles; those statements preceded the final round and were not final championship results.[6]

Players

The team's main player page, archived on 30 April 2007, listed the following players. Names, positions and numbers reproduce the spellings and descriptions on that page rather than an event-specific roster.[9]

Player Listed position Number
Amirhossein Dousthaghighi Front 777
Reza Badrian Front 03
Babak Esmaeily Back; captain 1
Aco Amir Sh.E Middle 69
Shahin Tabary Back 10

Babak Esmaeily and Aco Amir also appear in subsequent contemporary reporting about the team's international and domestic competition.[4][8]

Associated teams

Contemporary reporting describes Datis as an organisation with several teams. Planet Eclipse's February 2012 report explicitly associated Diako with Datis and identified Datis Girls as its women's team.[5]

Datis Girls competed in World Cup Asia Division 3 in 2012 and 2013, finishing 44th of 46 and 25th of 54 respectively.[21]

The 2017 PALM report separately identified Tehran Datis and Shemiranat Datis in different divisions.[6]

Sponsorship

The archived Datis website identified Behrooz Food Industries and DYE as sponsors in its account of the 2006 PALS championship.[22]

Datis was identified as Planet Eclipse sponsored in a November 2008 report. In his March 2010 interview, Aco Amir also named DYE and JT as equipment supporters.[2][8]

In 2017, Planet Eclipse reported that the organisation had received custom Datis CS1.5 markers through One4One Paintball.[6]
